Some of you fellow Gatherites know that I work in an academic library. It occured to me that I should probably be writing down some of the fabulous exchanges I take part in at the reference desk at my place of employment.
(cute girl with snarl on her face approaches)
Girl: I need a book on Mexico.
Me: Ok, what type of information are you looking to find?
Girl: *sigh* Stuff on MEXICO!
Me: Well, are you looking for information you'd normally find in a travel book or information on Mexican history, or information on the Mexican government, there's a lot of different.....
Girl (cutting me off): Stuff like if I was going there. I said that.
Me: Well, ok, let me take a look. Public libraries are more likely to have travel guides like Fodor's and the like but I'll see if we have anything.
Girl: Fine.
Me: Ok, we have a book called Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. It's located....
Girl (cutting me off AGAIN): I need it to be on ALL of Mexico not just parts of it!
Me: Ummm, I'm sorry....
Girl: *sigh* You said it was on Guatemala and Belize and I need it to be on all of Mexico, not just those parts.
Me: Oh (long pause as I think of how to approach this delicate situation) Well, it does cover all of Mexico as well as the countries of Guatemala and Belize. They aren't parts of Mexico, they're different countries.
Girl: Oh. Whatever.
