The marking period has ended and my grades are in after a very work-heavy weekend. Last week's arctic blast is also gone, and the story that I was finishing up at our last writing session will be online at The Edge of Propinquity this Thursday. It feels like spring is finally in the air as we make our way to tonight's writing/drawing session at Borders in Hyannis MA. We're expecting Lori and Miranda to join us. No word yet from Lynette.
I'm posting this to a bunch of new communities I've joined, so in case you're reading this for the first time, I host an informal writing work-session on tuesday nights with some friends that my wife and I made throught NanoWriMo. I encourage anyone who's doing some writing tonight to check in, share their goals, and answer tonight's question.
Last Week's Goals: Finish story. If possible, get a quick round of critique/editing from Gynn and Miranda. Anything beyond that is window dressing tonight.
Last Week's Results: Finished story. Gynn edited it after we got home, but didn't get it done in time for Miranda to give it a look while we were at Borders.
This Week's Goals: The next deadline I have to contend with is the Phoenix APA submission deadline a week from Friday (3/23). My zine, Caravan, is submitted as part of Phoenix but is also a stand-alone zine, and the deadline is doubly important because Saturday 3/24 is the Boston Zine Fair, which I will have a table at. So the zine has got to get done. The good news is that most of what is going in the zine is written. So Tonight's major goal is going to be to start laying it out. In fact, I'd like to have at least 4 pages completely laid out tonight. In addition, I'd like to read and review two comics, although I might do a childrens book either instead of or in addition to. I started posting reviews of childrens books on Gather when I happened to pick up a couple for the upcoming first birthday of my nephew, and I enjoyed doing the writeups.
Question of the week: Is there a particular season or time of the year that you find is better for your writing?
I'm fortunate in this regard because as a schoolteacher, I get much of the summer off from work and can use this time to focus on my writing. I never get as much done over the summer as I would like, but summer is definitely my most productive time as far as writing goes.
Please feel free to join in the writing tonight. Comment with what you're working on or your goals, or give your answer to the question of the week. Have a nice, creative evening!
