Friends,
Just picked up Eco-Freaks by John Berlau of the Competitive Enterprise Institute. Good read! Brings
balance and common-sense answers to much of the wild claims by environmentalists. Further, it points out how radical enviros have caused many of the tragedies we've faced, including how they made worse Katrina's impact on New Orleans.
The first item on the list is everyone's favorite - DDT. Berlau points out that:
- DDT saved the lives of millions of soldiers and civiliams in World War 2 by killing the typhus-carrying lice. Since the banning of DDT millions have died because of typhus,
- Rachel Carlson's campaign against DDT has caused the death of Dutch Elm trees and a large robin population,
Other points: How requiring increased gas mileage in cars causes unnecessary deaths, and how a World Trade Center whistleblower predicted a lack of asbestos would topple the building in a fire.
Grab a copy! It's eye-opening and, I would argue, indespensable in fighting environmental misinformation.

Wonder where these ideologues are going to make a living now that Exxon has announced it will now longer fund such "think tanks."

BTW, did you read the article you posted titled, "
"How Can the GOP Get Moving Again? Drop the Dirty Politics and Get Real"
That was a good article. It could promote healthy dialogue that terms like "eco-freaks" never will. Still waiting for your response to my comment on that article.

Interesting! Hadn't heard that before.
And did you know you can no longer get a typhus vaccination? The vaccine is no longer made. Many on th thread know I am interested in archaelogy and go to strange, weird, isolated, dank, and dusty lpaces. Seems that typhus vaccination is highly recommended for such as I.
Except the vaccine is no longer made or available in the US.

Let's bring back child labor too. Really that was "competetive enterprise" at its finest.
Both could have been prevented by using DDT.
How many deaths caused by DDT? ZERO, zilch, nada.
There's also the case of West Nile.
And what's most disturbing of all is radical enviros posting on their website that if an individual starts showing symptoms of West Nile to NOT see a doctor, that the symptoms are likely to recover completely and do not require any specific medication or laboratory testing.
The Green Part of New York City claims that "these diseases only kill the old and people whose health is already poor."
Outrageous.
