I wonder what this means for our "society"'s treatment of Terry Schivo???

I mean seriously... if this can happen what do we truely know about situations like Terry Schivo?  Other than she id dead becouse we as a scociety decided to stop feeding her...

I think this is the definition of "Faithless" and much of our society is just that...

But seriously they didn't treat her cheaply, they made good money on killing her...

But seriously if people read the article... what is there in all we saw when she was alive to say she was not still there...

I know she is having a better time of it with God, but I can not think he is pleased with our societies reaction to her case...

If nothing else, "if ye do it unto the least of these my brethren (or sisters) you have done it unto me..." this means we have starved our very Savior, becouse it was convenient...
and becouse we will feel better if we do not have to look at her and work with her...

and besides, there is all this money I (the husband) can get when she is gone, aren't I (the husband) entitled? ...

This truly makes one think, Emmett. I wonder if they (meaning the husband of Terry) now has any regrets? In any case, it's too late. She "is" in a better place... you just never know and maybe we aren't meant to judge.

this is an amazing story and one that we need to learn from...only one being can determine when death will come and that is God...for us to make the choice is to second guess God and no one should dare feel that way. thank you Emmett!

I don't it's fair to shorten a life no matter what. I know that we just take for granted that people in coma's are suffering and "wouldn't wanna live this way". Maybe she was being taught something invaluable, or becoming more prepared to handle her life, or learning to value her life more. I don't know, and that's the point, neither did they.

I believe that America was totally disgusted with the politicians who took the opportunity to take advantage of the parental grief and inability to move on and turn it into a media event and attempted to use it for political advantage. It was in my mind revolting. About a decade ago I chose, with the approval and actual prodding, of her parents to have lifesupport removed from my wife. What JEB Bush and the political right did as a political stunt makes me want to vomit over the intrusion into this incident.

Sorry. Remind me to complete that living will. No way do I want my family paying for 6 years of intensive care, and for that I would give my life. And if all intensive care means is they need to pay a nurse to clean up after me, that's too much also.

Society does not have any respect for life anymore. I think we are now living in a very selfish "me - me" society. They care about nothing but themselves. It is really sad. I hate to think what it will be like in just a short year away.

I have had a living will and a power of attorney fixed up for years now. My family will not have to go through anything like that.

I understand the feelings behind opinions that differ from mine. I just know how I feel. Every breath I take is a chance to overcome obstacles and do better. I'd probably feel depressed and suicidal if something happened to where my abilities were seriously inhibited, but I don't think suicide, or assisted suicide, or murder is ever the answer. I'm not sure what God thinks about pulling the "plug". I don't even know if he intended for there to be a "plug" to pull. I've already told my parents never to expect me to assist them should anything happen to them. I love them more than life...almost. So I couldn't in good conscience make a decision that might shorten their life.

This is a very controversial subject and everyone is entitled to their own opinion!

ME, personally, I don't want to be kept alive that way! NOT at all! To me, it's not living. I'd rather my family be able to grieve and move on!

I know a close family member that has been in a coma for 1 /12 years with NO signs of brain activity! It's a TERRIBLE situation for everyone involved. Especially her young children!

What happened to Terry Shivo was mercy fueled by compassion...nothing more 7 certainly nothing less! The difference is that Terry did not have aleagl document that stated her wishes & directives for such a circumsatnce. Her nusband had the right tom do what he did...her parents had no rights under the law so maybe there needs to be some sort of adjustment to the leagal code?

I'm always saddened when people think it's right to be killed simply to make life "easier". Don't they realize that this concept of making life "easier" will really create a "hell" on earth when some people get the power to determine what's "easier" and what's not?

If she had a living will, we never would have heard all the blown up news stories, and political bullcrap, and she would not have lingered so long. I believed her husband when he stated that she would not want to exist as a brainless body! I'm tired of all the people who want to tell others what they can and can't do with their lives. If you all care so much about life, then work on saving the millions who starve to death around the world every year!

Dale, You don't think we already have hell on earth! Look at all the innocent dying in Iraq every day because of our illegal war there! God no longer wants his name used in any of our countries documents! Many people live miserable suffering lives around the globe every day also...
