Unite. Yes, I say UNITE.
Unite one, and unite all ... for the common good of mankind. Mankind's voice will not be stifled, nor mankind's voice in mankind's beliefs. We are all believer's ... one way or another. Be it religious, be it spiritual, be it ecumenical, be it in theory or philosophy. Practiced or not practiced. Where ever you are, there you are! AND, a very large portion of our Gather Community Members have been left out in the proverbial cold. Yes, I say cold.
With the new Gather program up and running, a void has been made. A void right here in River City at Gather.com! The void is right here within the Gather community. We now have the "g essentials" ... yes, the "G-ESSENTIALS" which are totally awesome, helpful, & they do make a powerful impact in the user usability for the whole Gather Community. Right at our finger tips we can click to any of the "g-essentials & presto ... Just click one of the nine essentials tab & you would think you have struck the mega million jackpot. At our very fingertips is a world full of:
BOOKS
FOOD
HEALTH
MONEY
MOVIES
MUSIC
NEWS
POLITICS
TRAVEL
Each category a wonderful showcase of diverse information, entertainment, fiction, & non fiction. That is totally awesome ... BUT
Yes, here is the clincher ... where is FAITH, RELIGION, SPIRITUALITY, or SOCIETY? At least one, if not all four!
Now, I am big on conspiracy theories - this is true - and this smacks of a big conspiracy to me. This huge gap has purposely left many authors & writers; the good, the bad, & the ugly within these particular genres - without - YES I SAY - WITHOUT - the community support & connection power that Gather is so commonly known for!
Especially in the day & age we are living in, this is an intolerable condition that cannot be overlooked by any attitudes of lazy forgetfulness, ambiguity, or downright totalitarianism within techno land.
It is time to unite, let our voices be heard. Let our people arise together and let each voice be heard. Be it a voice that speaks & writes about FAITH; or a voice that speaks & writes about RELIGION; or a voice that speaks & writes about SPIRITUALITY, or SOCIETY!
We are here for Gather.com - but ---- Gather.com has to be here for us too. For without YOU & ME ... there would be NO Gather.com & nothing to Gather too! It's not too late. Maybe this is a little facetious, and a bit satirical ... but the jest of it is ...

I would think Religion, or Faith (what ever subject title you want call it) is still a ESSENTIAL in the world today. Or are we all out just for entertainment, luxury, & the every so called worldly pleasure in life ... which are fine ... but you have to be 'soul' concious to or you end up at the short end of the stick sooner or later.
Does anyone get my drift? Or have I just dropped a ball out in left field somewhere. I am very passionate about my Faith, my Spirituality, my Soul & Conscious! Because you take all the toys away ... and what do you have left?

I say also, we could all drop membership on the others... to get noticed as a group...
The Gather gods have promised that the numbers of featured groupings ("G-Essentials") will expand, as indeed it did when Health was recently added.
But look over the list again. It was designed for those with opinions and those who will post lots of stuff, even if it's crap comments. It was not designed for well reasoned discussions involving people with something worthwhile to impart. That's not to say that knowledgeable people don't contribute, but that they are not encouraged by the other weaknesses of Gather, primarily that it is designed to create as much traffic as possible so that advertising revenue rules.
The sole purpose of Gather is to generate advertising dollars. By its structure, it will discourage thinking at any level beyond the minimum. That leaves the emotional vandals to keep stirring the pot to get the good people excited enough to write tearful messages, again and again, thus increasing Gather traffic and its income.
I'm not religious by nature, but understand how one could feel slighted, (in more ways than one), by the current situation.

BUT, this is thinking beyond the pocketbook or the belly! Pure & simple - it is digging where others have forgotten to did, can't dig, or don't know how to dig. OR for some who just need a pinch on their own soul to start them digging for themselves ... Like Fox Mulder says to Scully ... "The truth is out there".
Inspiration does not come cheap. But cheap is what transpires without inspiration.
It is still about BEING the change we want to see in the world today. There are a lot of Good Articles & Good Writers out here in Gather Land. Some thinkers beyond the silver screen, the tv, the video games, the experiential voyeurism, & cheap entertainment that is really costing far too much in the first place ... I would just like to see them get a little recognition where it is SUPPOSE TO BE IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Emmett ... I just joined your group. Way to go! Bill, you hit the proverbial nail on the head once again, might I add - as always. Thanks to the rest of you too for casting your vote & saying what you really believe! The truth is always larger than ourselves ... it better be or we are all in for a rude awakening ... This IS important.

This is my rant to get the attention to the right people. Other Gather Members have said many genres are being overlooked ... which ones???
Like I said I am most passionate about the Faith, Religion, Spirituality, & Society genres. But for heavens sake ... why be here if we are not being looked upon as valuable assets within the community. Valuable enough to have our own 'Essentials'
button on the front page. Valuable enough to generate our own reading audience (which is there) & our own Members (which are there).
I contest the outright down playing & blatant oversight of the most important Essentials in the "HUMAN FACTOR" ... especially here in Gather.com. I should not have to resort to staring my own Gather.com Essentials Group. BUT, needless to say I will if our beloved Gather Support Team does not tend to business.
Otherwise, I too will leave Gather.com & perhaps START MY OWN WEBSITE TO REALLY SUPPORT THE HUMAN FACTORS THAT ARE JUST AS ESSENTIAL THAT GATHER.COM DEEMS UNESSENTIAL.
With hobbies also comes advertising for many items that would be needed to even pursue your love of creating. Once again, I am sure that there are many, many different avenues people would like to see included. Why not make a drop down box (not sure how to correctly word the technical aspect of it's function) but it would pull down and show the different avenues of where all it can take you.
I do not even see poetry mentioned. I just logged on and went straight to this article so I hope that I am not speaking out of terms when I am strictly going by the above mentioned as above, but I think just by glancing it pretty much sums it up. Why don't they go after some spiritual advertising as well if it is mainly all about the big buck? Plenty of people are into yoga, and anything cleansing for the mind and the soul?
This leaves out far too many of our talented writers that they have yet to feature so if they are not on the front page or writing about the few buttons to click on, once again they are not delving far enough into so many fine, articulate writers who are leaving and I feel that since many changes there has been more bullies, more people that have nothing to offer, but bad attitudes, bad manners and just enjoy stirring the pot to take out their problems on fine, upstanding people whom I have grown to respect and have been fortunate enough to call a friend. Sorry for the long rant, but it has been building up in me for quite awhile and I know as well as others. Let us unite and stand by each other and not stand for poor treatment in any shape or form and be heard. Thank you.
