Response to the letter

As I hadn't heard anything in response to the letter I sent about the lack of support we received the evening my mother in law died, I followed it up with an email ....  this is the response I received....  just in case anyone's interested.

 

Hello
I attempted to speak with you on February 23rd by telephone but no-one
answered and I wasn't able to leave you a message to acknowledge receipt of
your letter. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking
time to provide us with your concerns at what must have been a difficult
time for you and your family. The nurse's supervisor has discussed your
concerns with the nurse and could call you at a time that is convenient for
you. Please let me know when you could be available or if there is an
alternate phone number.

I've emailed back with more contact info .... but doubt I'll learn much more.

 

Oh well... at least I tried! Hopefully she will think before she speaks in the future!

Had to go back and read your original letter (which I thought was well written.) I had a similar experience with an on call nurse when my mother was dying. Hard to believe "your" nurse said she didn't want to drive out! Good grief. That is her job when she is ON CALL! At least you were able to put your concerns in writing. Hopefully, it will be a little different for another patient in the future thanks to your letter.

well you have to hear what they have to say first hon, then maybe you can feel better or maybe you might want to pursue it further, but hear them out okay?

of course in the novel, she'd lose her job and end up ... oh, I dunno .... McD's, saying "you want fries with that?" LOL

Sounds like ou have done everything to get in touch with them that you can. Now the ball is in their court. Hopefully they will be able to tell you something.

Not allowed to be at mcd's asking about fries unless you have an English degree. :) They won't give you details about what happens to her, but it certainly sounds like they're following up--and that it'll be on her record! Good job, flit!
Hadn't read the original. Glad I did. I think inexcusable is the right term.

My sister has done hospice nursing. She's also supervised registry nurses. If that woman worked for her she would have fired her.
Perhaps, when it comes time to make a payment, you can instruct your insurance carrier, or the provider of Ms. Dimwit (a D word) that you don't feel like paying.

ah, if only, Chris... I live in Ontario, where health care services are mostly covered by government programs - so there's no bills to pay

If they don't contact you, send me the address and I will write them a politely put, but very stern letter of support.

I went back and read your original letter, and commented there too. My heart goes out to you and your family. That nurse has no right in the profession. Nursing is a difficult job, you have to dehumanize yourself so much to be successful. By that I mean, You can't let your emotions take over, yet you can't be emotion free. You can't make mistakes, as it could cause serious consequences (She made the mistake of not caring).

I was tired of not being human. I loved each and everyone I took care of. (First BIG mistake.)

Finally heard from her boss today .... nothing specific, but said that she'd spoken with her (and supposedly, she - loserNurse - "feels just awful about it"), and arranged 'specialized training' for her and done some related training for all of her staff.

And she apologized several times, and asked if there was anything else she could do.
