American Idol Review (Guys performances 2.06.07)

Overall, horrible again.

The two hip hoppy guys (Blake and Chris) were both good, as usual, but the rest were lame at best and a few of them were downright awful.

One thing I'm really surprised about is the lack of guidance, or whatever, that these contestants seem to get.

For example, someone should have told Sunjaya that the hula dancing "reveal" was not going to do anything to convince people that he's not the complete freak they already think he is.  His singing and general look were actually ok last night but the hula dancing thing was absurd.

Another example, what was Sundance thinking singing that Pearl Jam song?  It was awful.  The judges were far more kind to him than he deserved.  They must like him.  I can understand that, I guess.  I like him, too.  But he is obviously getting no guidance on his song choices and is evidently not bright enough to figure out that he should not be singing rock songs.  I really would have thought he would have figured it out after the Knights in White Satin debacle of week 1 (which he was lucky to survive). 

Navy guy (Phil) sounded horrible.  Randy Jackson compared him to Steve Perry -- you have got to be freaking kidding me. 

I think the judges were being generous in saying that 4 of the guys deserved to be in the top 12.  To me, only the two hip hoppy guys have any chance whatsoever.  I think Chris Sligh has a very nice voice but his presence is lacking.

Once they get to the top 12, I think you'll see 4 consecutive weeks of guys getting bounced.

Which of the guys will go this week?  I have no clue.   In terms of who I think SHOULD go it is Sanjaya (clearly) and then probably Brandon mostly because he's just kind of dull (decent singer, though).
