We had over 30 submissions to this month's challenge, "Light and Water", which was chosen by last month's big winner, Frank!! That's an outstanding turnout and the pictures submitted were beautiful! Frank did a fantastic job with the subject choice and I know his job of guest judge this month must have been a huge challenge.
If you've never visited our group before, I do encourage you to do so. We are located at www.photochallenge.gather.com . We are always seeking new members, so if you would like to participate in our monthly challenges, feel free to join us! Each month a new challenge is posted, and you can submit as many original photos as you desire that fits that month's theme topic. The guidelines are simple, just have fun and be certain to only submit work that was taken by you. All we ask is that you put the topic as a tagline when submitting your photos so that we can assure you intended to participate in the challenge. It's that simple.
Now, back to the winners!!
This month's challenge winners are:
THIRD PLACE goes to...............
KARRON W's image "Skipping Rocks", found here:
http://www.gather.com/viewImage.jsp?fileId=3096224744032992&iGrpId=3659174697242932
Frank had this to say: "In third place, I must admit I chose one that brought back many memories for me - Karron W's image, Skipping Rocks," submitted 2/18. I have been skipping rocks ever since my father taught me how, perhaps a half century ago. I still do, and have taught many a youngster the simple pleasure of the passtime - not unlike flying kites. Karron's image combined all of that for me, with a beautful setting of light and water - the essence of peace. I was a little gratified that the person skipping the rocks is closer to my age bracket than those I have taught!"
SECOND PLACE goes to......
LISA M's picture of Watkins Glen, found here:
http://www.gather.com/viewImage.jsp?fileId=3096224744021810&iGrpId=3659174697242932
Frank had this to say: "Second place - Lisa M's picture of Watkins Geln, submitted on 2/3. The many comments sum up why this picture is so wonderful. My reaction to it is visceral, and I love the way the sunlight illuminates not just the falling water and the wet rocks, but the mist through which it passes".
And finally.......
FIRST PLACE goes to:
JIMMY U's "Tap Water" photo, found here:
http://www.gather.com/viewImage.jsp?fileId=3096224744036596&iGrpId=3659174697242932
Frank had this to say: "And the first prize goes to Jimmy U. for Tap Water, submitted 2/22. One of the comments refers to his ability to take something mundane (a water faucet) and make such a beautiful image. I totally agree. I can find nothing wrong with this picture. I love the way the tap itself is out of focus, and the focus gradually sharpens as your eye follows the strea of water to the bottom, where all become a crystal clear, abstract pattern of light and water, with a little unexpected color to heighten the overall impression. Marvelous!"
Congrats to all the winners!!! And thank you to all the people who submitted this month. This group wouldn't be what it is without all of you!
I encourage everyone to view ALL the great submissions to this month's challenge!! Truly some wonderfully talented people!
See you all at the next challenge!!
Take Care,
Hazel
