**********FDA warns consumers about dangers of online prescription drugs
Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued yet another warning to American consumers about the dangers of buying prescription drugs online. In a number of instances, buyers had to seek emergency medical attention after ingesting a powerful anti-psychotic drug that was mixed into the medications they ordered over the Internet.
Following these reports, the FDA highlighted the deceptive practices of many commercial outlets on the Internet and the lack of quality assurance with online products — exposing American consumers to potentially lethal dangers when controlled substances are sold in an uncontrolled manner. While the FDA warning was for online prescription medications, alcohol is just as accessible online, putting consumers at the same risks of quality assurance when not purchasing alcohol from a legitimate, licensed retailer.
What can you do? Contact your elected officials and tell them that online alcohol sales bypass the system of safeguards and threaten public safety because it takes the "control" out of controlled products like prescription medication and alcohol. As with the FDA warnings on medicine, when alcohol is sold online, there is no way to ensure product safety or prevent product counterfitting.
