There is a Democratic Party group already, and more power to them, but there are many issues that it is best not to deal with at the level of political parties. Sometimes, we come together most powerfully as individuals, or as members of issue-specific groups.
Besides, I'm not a Democrat. I'm not a member of any political party. I'm a progressive independent.
I created the Progressive Politics Group because of what I see happening in my village of Trumansburg, New York. We have a newspaper, called the Trumansburg Free Press, which employs as its main reporter a local business owner who is a member of the Chamber of Commerce. That reporter hosted a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce at his own house -- and then reported on that meeting in the newspaper!
We have the chance to create the media that we have wanted but have not been given. We can start here, with this group.
Let's get active.

Then I was a candidate for U.S. Congress on a Personal Choice Party Ticket a couple of times. I like Personal Choice really well, but Personal Choice is hard to put or keep on the ballot because it's so difficult to explain how a political party can let anyone run as a candidate no matter what their belief system. It would cost a couple of million dollars to put it on the ballot, I have no clue as to how to raise that kind of money without at the same time compromising my principles.
A friend send the following quote (offered by Howard Zinn) recently concerning action:
"It doesn't matter who sits in the White House. It matters who sits in."
