The Sea Bat
One day we were at sea when a couple of my shipmates came to where I was swabbing the deck. They asked, “Do you want to see a sea bat?” I said, “Sure, I haven’t ever seen one.”
Each one took an arm and as they are walking me to where the sea bat was they were telling me, “You have to bend over and watch closely because it was under a bucket that another sailor was holding down. When he moves the bucket the bat would fly away.”
Just as we walked around the corner, there was another sailor there to see the sea bat, and was bent over by; the sailor holding a bucket down and rocking the bucket.
He lifts the bucket up and someone with a broom swats the sailor bent over on the behind.
That did it for me; I got to see the sea bat and did not have to feel its bite.
I turned around and said, “Well I saw the sea bat,” and walked away with a smile on my face.
