The Gather.com Travel Photo Contest is underway and members have started to ask some great questions. This article addresses questions members have asked regarding the contest. We will be adding to this article as new questions are posed to us.
Q) I want to participate in The Gather.com Travel Photo Contest ("Photo Contest"). Where can I find all of the contest details?
A) For information on how to enter your photo(s) into the contest, prize details, and eligibility guidelines, consult the Official Rules and Submission Guidelines.
Q) Is this contest open to international Gather members?
A) Yes. The Photo Contest is open to all Gather members 13 years of age or older.
Q) Can I enter the contest by editing an image I've previously posted?
A) No. To ensure your entry into the Photo Contest, you must republish your image according to the Official Rules and Submission Guidelines.
Q) Where can I find my image once I have published it to the Gather Essentials: Travel group?
A) US Photo entries may be accessed here: http://www.gather.com/photous
International Photo entries may be accessed here: http://www.gather.com/photoint
Look for your photo(s) under "Recent Images."
Please note that because the Gather Essentials: Travel is a moderated group, your entry will not appear immediately in http://travel.gather.com. It may take up to a day for the moderator to accept it into the contest.
Q) Can I publish my image to other appropriate groups on Gather.com?
A) Yes. All entries must be: original work, unsold, and unpublished except on Gather.com, personal websites and blogs, and other photo-sharing sites.
Q) I'm an international Gather member. Can I only submit photos in the International photo category?
A) Entrants can compete multiple times in both categories: domestic photos (photos taken in the U.S.) and International photos (photos taken anywhere outside the U.S.).
Q) I am unable to upload my photos. What do I need to do to participate in the contest?
A) Gather supports the publishing of JPEG images. If you are attempting to publish photos that are saved in another image file format they will not successfully upload on to Gather. Please re-edit your photos and try to upload them again. For example, performing a 'save for web' image save from Adobe Photoshop or PaintShopPro generally ensures that your images are saved in a "true" JPEG format. If you are having trouble uploading a JPEG image, please contact Gather's Member Services team at Support@Gather.com. Use the subject line Photo Contest in your email, and please attach a copy of your image(s) to the e-mail, as well.
Q) What will happen to my entries once the contest is over?
A) All images will remain posted to the Gather Essentials: Travel group.
