ice storm redux

whew! michigan weather! last year, we had an incredible (and difficult) ice storm.   yesterday's ice storm wasn't as bad as last year, but the schools were all closed for the 2nd time in 3 days, and the windows were absolutely covered with ice.  in between rain storms, lillie and i ventured out to take a few photos. the alarming creaking and groaning of ice-laden branches brought us scurrying back inside quickly, though...

 

here are a few shots from our yard. i can't get the photos to be larger in this article (darn gather!), so just squint a bit - sorry!  there was much more ice on the lake side of the house than on the road side! must be all that open space, allowing the rain to cling better... lillie couldn't even get purchase on her swingset, to go down the slide. there's too much snow, so the swings are buried. crazy winter! glorious winter!

Though dangerous and deadly as ice storms can be, the beauty of all encrusted in a film of ice can be breathtaking. We have storms like that here many times in March; some that bring many trees and power lines down leaving hundreds of thousands without electricity for days.

Lovely photos, but I am disappointed you can't make them larger. That seems to be a common problem on gather these days.

We were supposed to have an appraisal for a refi today but I called yesterday to cancel when it took me 20 minutes to get the mail. Our driveway is on a hill and is a solid sheet of ice. The front steps has a ice path at the foot leading to the gate and the back steps are nothing but ice as is the dog kennel which is a foot from the back steps.

Great shots. My grandson came in tonight after being out for just a bit in the bitter cold and said, It's so cold, it makes you want to go to church. Then he explained he had read Dantes Inferno. I didn't know he was t hat deep. Rewarding though. Has been cold, will be for another week or so and then March 15 seems to break the back of winter. Hope so for all of us anyway

what amazing photographs, as usual, Jessie.... i don't know how you do it, but you get better and better... these macros ('m assuming they're macros?) are lovely. You perfectly capture the moment in time, in history, preserving it for all... and sharing it. I've been in the midwest in teh winter and whew!!! i remember once with the windchill in wisconsin it was about 80 below.... ugh....

great work, as always....

jessie - do me a favor and republish this in the middle of summer. The photos are gorgeous, but I think I will truly enjoy them when longing for some respite from the heat of summer ;-)
