So, Minneapolis got about a foot of snow yesterday (after receiving a foot earlier in the week). And where is Zeldapie? AT WORK. Yah, I dug my way out this morning and my faithful little car got me to safely to work.
Now I KNOW there's a buncha wimps out there, sittin' at home in their pjs, sipping hot chocolate. WIMPS, I tell ya!
We don't have a full crew here today, but fewer people called in for a snow day than expected. There's a sense of camaraderie in the office today - a feeling that we're tough and brave and got through the winter storm with true Minnesota hardiness.
What are YOU doing today?

(SLOOOOOOW day! Where IS everybody?)
After this morning's shovelin all today holds is working, working. Lending a hand to the people who are working from home. Support Bob Collins in his effort to build a slideshow of folks' pictures (go ahead, upload one) and basically holding onto my chair for dear life.
You?
and good morning!
I'm worn out, too, from the shoveling last night and this morning. And there's a LOT more when I get home. This morning, I didn't even attempt to clear the sidewalks in front, on the side, and to/from the front and back doors. I was lucky just to get the driveway and part of the alley cleared. I live on a corner lot, so I have MUCH more to shovel than most folks. Sigh.
People here scoffed at our governor a few years ago for closing the schools on account of cold - the air temperature was 25 below with windchills of 35 to 40 below. Lots of folks thought he was being a wimp and felt the kids just had to bundle up more. 'Nuff said.
Melinda and Joanne be careful what you wish for or who you invite. What if we all showed up!?
W00t!
Then it's off to Joanne's!!
*Zpie dons a lampshade and grabs a bottle of vodka.
I kid. I store my friend's F150 for him (long story, and I actually don't call it "F150" but something less family friendly) and lemme tell you, that thing goes everywhere.
I'm on car #3, and they've all been small hatchbacks (two four-speeds, and now a big ol' FIVE-speed - w00t!), but I've always managed to get through the worst winter storms and blizzards with few problems. Maybe it's the way I drive?
Yes, Julia, a corner lot is sheer madness. I have roughly 125 more feet to shovel than my neighbors. *sob
The best cars I've had for snow were "experienced" Volvos (Yeah, very Public Radio. But they were Cheap! And I could repair them myself!) and an early 80's Toyota Tercel. Man, that thing was a toy and it seemed to drive on TOP of the snow it was so light and small.
[fails to mention that he already planned for the day off]
I DID have to get up early and move the car. Then I went back to bed.
I remember quite a few days in Illinois when the high was around 10 and there was no thought of school closures.
My car:
It sits about 4 inches off the ground, but I have snow tires on it and it has FWD...I haven't gotten stuck yet...ever...
I JUST uploaded a photo for ya, Julia...
Come on by, we'll have some crabs, beer, and good times
I already have crabs...
:D
We were supposed to go see Dana Gould at ACME last night and we wimped out. I don't even know if he made it here. Fortuntately for us we'd seen him twice before ,but this was his first time in the TC for about 8 years or so. He's now a producer on the Simpsons and rarely ventures outside LA to do stand up anymore.
*sniff
Did you know that lobsters mate for life, and they hold claws when they walk along the sand?
It's true.
*Z bites into her tofu pup and sighs
And they are tasty when cooked and dipped in drawn butter...
Aw geez... it's snowing again.
blerf
We pull you close but never really
looking warm but feeling chilly
*sigh*
Man, they're tasty to begin with and then you add drawn butter... *low whistle* yummo. Sorry Zpie, didn't mean to be such an obvious omnivore.

(sorry - no time to tag the link, you'll have to cut and paste it the old fashioned way)
BLERF!!!!
*Zpie nibbles on her texturized vegetable protein patty
(Uh, not anymore, Onie. I'm talking in the past.)
I hate you, Frick.
Here's a nice story about two geese, for your reading pleasure:

Under da sea
Under da sea
I'll beat and disgrace you
Then piss in your face you
Take it from ME!!!!
Those lobsters sure like golden showers, huh?
Julia, I had 3 (count 'em!) Tercels! An 81, an 86 & a 94. Best cars I ever owned - durn things started with nary a complaint at 25 below.
There, I hope you feel bad now, just like you made me cry because I couldn't go to TAL. Are you crying yet?
Wait a sec, you even have an SUV. Wimp.
SUV or no SUV, it's the other people on the roads I don't trust in weather like that.
and lastly.. Nanny Nanny Boo boo! I got to see TAL!! :P
Still, there was very little traffic on the roads. For once Minnesotans actually seemed to take the travel warnings seriously.
p.s. THHHHHBBBBBBBBTTTTTT!
