Here's How It Works: Now through Thursday, March 22, 2007, amateur and professional photographers alike from around the world will post their original travel photos to the Gather Essentials: Travel group. Photo subjects can include a cityscape, landscape, natural wonder, or other photo showcasing a destination from a trip the Gather member has taken. Entrants can compete in two categories: U.S. (photos taken in the U.S.) and International (photos taken anywhere outside of the U.S.). Multiple entries are allowed. The Gather Editorial Team will select 10 finalists in both categories, and Gather members will rate the finalists Monday, March 26 through Saturday, March 31 to select the Grand Prize Winners. The Grand Prize Winners will be announced on Monday, April 2.
To enter:
1) You must be a member of the Gather Essentials: Travel group; click here to join the group
2) After you've completed the group registration, publish your image(s) by following these steps (multiple entries are allowed in both categories):
- Click on the "Publish" tab at the top of any Gather page
- Select "Publish an Image"
- Browse to find and upload your image; images must be JPG format only and cannot exceed 1.5Mb
- In the "Image Caption" field, you must add a caption with a description of your photo and its location (example: Bustling Marketplace, Laos)
- In the "Tags" field, in addition to any other relevant tags you choose to add, you must add either photous if the photo was taken in the U.S., or photoint if it is an international photo
- In the "Who can view my image" field, click "Everyone," and also select the "Gather Essentials: Travel" group
- Click "Save"
**Please note: Because the Travel Essentials group is moderated, your entry will not appear immediately in http://travel.gather.com/. It may take up to a day for the moderator to accept it into the contest.
To verify that you have tagged your photo(s) properly, you can check www.gather.com/photous and www.gather.com/photoint and look for your photo(s) under "Recent Images."
Please contact support@gather.com with any additional contest questions. Use the subject line Photo Contest in your email, and please attach a JPG of your image(s) if you are having trouble posting to the site.

sorry-- Gather is just a bad place to hang anything serious--and the better you are at something, the more problems you face. Why didn't Gather list any of my images on it's 76pages of chosen images--
and why is that none of my images ever make it into the top 100? especially when many of them have won photo awards on serious photography contests?
and how is that they always get dissed? and when I go to see the top ranked images, i see lots and lots of mediocre photography?
so why bother with this?
and somewhere there will be the fine print only for residents in the USA-- but what is the relationship between us residents and us nonresidents?
so good luck with your contest-- I won't miss it at all. there are far better photography contests out there where rules are clear and the competition is very serious and really, I like it better.
To answer your question, this contest is open to international members. All Gather members 13 years of age and older are eligible to enter.
