Engaged & Underage.

I have seen previews. And I would AGREE with you! Why "advertise" something that "promotes" getting married at such a young and vulnerable age. I'm only 31, but I feel that way.

My 17 year old cousin just got engaged and have set a wedding date for Summer of 08' and she's still a senior! NOT SMART in MY opinion!

We live in an age where anything goes. Fortunately the trend is to get married later in life.

If it will sell ratings, they will air it.
I concur that this is ridiculous. But what do you expect, it's MTV.

it is just a way to get good rating. anything out of the norm sells so MTV is trying to do just that. they don't care about "message"..just look at their show call sweet 16..is it plain disgusting.

Michael you are right it is MTV so what should I expect. But yes, why advertise this, watching this show will give some the wrong idea & in my opinion encourage more underage marriages.

Nana I would agree that most people do get married later.

Bhumika you are right. I agree Sweet 16 is disgusting, I actually wacthed two shows back to back I can not believe the parents, the kids & the antics that went on for the party! What a waste of money.

MTV has the worst shows for teens and this new one sounds like it will be about as bad as "Sweet 16."

My wife and I were 17 and 18, respectively when we got married. We're still married 31 years later, but I know that we're the exception to the rule.

I haven't watched this show, but I hope that it presents the challenges of marrying so young. It's an uphill battle financially, emotionally and socially. I love my wife dearly and I know that she loves me at least as much. I'd marry her all over again. Maybe we were strong enough, maybe we were lucky enough to overcome the obstacles ... but they do exist.

I sincerely advise against anybody else getting married that young.

I have heard of the show, but have yet to watch it. MTV is putting on shows lately that basically show how spoiled and pampered the younger generation is getting. I think it's unrealistic (though, of course, they call these "reality" shows), and it gives average normal teens another reason to feel bad about themselves.

For instance, the "My Super Sweet 16" show, where they show teens getting to throw themselves a dream party at 16. We're not talking small get togethers, but parties that rival some of the most grand weddings in history- parents spending $100k on up just on the party, not to mention $50-150k cars being given to them. They hire out super star musical acts, have gowns commissioned to be made by famous designers, and "hold court" handing out invitations in a grand manor to show who is cool enough to warrent an invite, and who is not. To an adult, it's amusing to see the lengths kids will go to, and the way parents will pander to them. To a kid, it's just another way of showing that anyone average is unworthy. I can't imagine what that will do to their self esteem.

Dan I forgot to add congrulations on making it 31 years a long time, espically by today's standards given the divorce rate.

I agree Heather that show is awful. But then again I blame the parents for consenting to and allowing that.

Society is always trying to make a quick buck. Sad

Heather I asked a friend why she always gives in to her child's demands, and her answer was I don't want her to have to be without like I was. Now I can see that to some extent, because I guess as a parent you want to give your kids all you can.
But geeze the extreme that those Sweet 16 parties have become is unbelievable.

I have seen this show a few times and it does present the challenges that young couples face, which is nice. It really doesn't seem like it "promotes" marrying at such a young age, in fact... it is kind of doing the opposite. It follows them around during the last few weeks right before their wedding, and then gives you a follow up after they've gotten married. As far as I've seen.. the message that MTV is trying to send is actually this question: "Are you really ready to get married?" This one really isn't all that bad, compared to the My Super Sweet 16 show that you guys were talking about. That one is just unreal!

My parents were married young. My mom was 17 and my dad was 20. They are still married and it's been 33 years! So, I know that it CAN work. But it's not the "norm". And things were different when my parents did this type of thing!

I have not seen that show , don't even have MTV so I can't count on it . I do know that most kids that I know that go married right of high school are divorced now . They had no idea of being married really means .

Faith you are right about the message it is sending out, but I do wonder if most watching get that message.

Bridget -wow congrats for them 33 years is a long time. Yes, things were different when they got married 33 years ago, but then life was so different. When I think about then as now, espically things we did as children.
