News - Romantic billboard proposal did not work for deploying Marine

Kyle Griffin, 19, shipped out with his Marine unit for Iraq on Sunday, about a week after he was jilted by the woman he wanted to marry.

He arranged to put up a billboard with his girl friend's name and the question: ``Will you marry me?''  But on Feb 17, after he bought a nonreturnable engagement ring and got down on one knee in front of the billboard, his girlfriend said, “No.''

“I want you to make sure you don't make her sound like the bad guy in this,'' Griffin told Reno Gazette-Journal columnist Siobhan McAndrew. “She's just kind of moving on with her life, and I've been gone at basic training and in San Diego for a year.''

Last year, he and his girlfriend had a baby girl, now 7 months old, and Griffin thought he was completing the final step in making a family.

That's sad! Poor young man! And she'll probably demand child-support since he has a steady job and then go out partying nightly (while mom or some other family member tends the baby) to mend her "poor broken heart"!

I asked our human resources person to stop subscribing to the company that sends out a poster that says " Moving? Having a Baby? Getting Married? Talk to Human Resources." IMHO that poster has it all backwards.

poor guy, she sucks, yada yada yada. Think of it this way, though, she saved him an awful lot of trouble in the future. And, it def. took some guts on her part. That's pressure!

I agree with Brandy.. we do not know all the facts...

And Jennifer you are right too... Being either a military wife or a trucker's wife is very difficult and some people are just not cut out for it.

It is sad, but as stated earlier, we can't really blame her or hate her. We don't know what the reason was that she sad no. But, it is so sad that there is a child involved in this.
