The Military Commissions Act legalized torture, revoked habeas corpus, gave George W. Bush and other top officials legal amnesty for war crimes they have committed, and allows the ordinary system of American justice to be replaced by a set of kangaroo courts rigged to convict, imprison, and even execute people based on the flimsiest standards of proof.
All the Democrats in the United States Senate who are running for President this year voted against the Military Commissions Act. Good for them. All of the Republicans in the Senate, who are running for President this year, including John McCain voted for the Military Commissions Act. Shame on them.
The Republicans were in the wrong. But what have the Democrats done lately?
One Democratic Senator who is running for President, Christopher Dodd, has introduced a bill, S. 576, to undo most of the worst parts of the Military Commissions Act. The shame of it is that none of the other Democrats from the Senate who are running for President have bothered to support the bill, or to offer their own alternative measure for restoring the freedoms that were lost to the Military Commissions Act.
Not Hillary Clinton.
Not Joseph Biden.
Not Barack Obama.
Please, contact the campaigns of these presidential candidates and tell them that you expect them to do something now to undo the damage. Then, join in the Project to Repeal the Military Commissions Act.
It's up to you to take a stand for liberty in America. No one else will do the work for you.

Thanks for the information! I agree that this act must go. It should go to the supreme court quickly. I do recognize that they might allow different standards for foreign enemies but anyone with American citizenship is guaranteed certain rights by our constitution!
By judging someone guilty of being a foreign enemy BEFORE that has been proven in a court of law, you are eliminating the basic legal principle of the presumption of innocence.
Under the Military Commissions Act, suspects are presumed guilty.
