Yes..lots of yummy stuff you can't get anywhere else. A little pricy though.

Nanci - John O. summed it up quite well. If you are looking for unique food items (20 different varieties of hot peppers, and a similar selection for fresh and dried mushrooms), then you can find yourself spending a lot of time (and $$$$) in the store.

You are so lucky...we have to go to St. Louis to shop in one. Yes, the prices are higher...so I wouldn't do all my shopping there. The produce is amazing, as is the cheese selection. I also love many of the breads and bakery items. They have wonderful foods prepared to take home and heat, a fresh salad bar...oh, I would love to have one here.

Whole Foods is great. There are three in Chicago that I know of. We have Wild Oats in Omaha, which is their competitor, but I really enjoyed Whole Foods while living in Chicago. I think you'll keep them in business as many others will, too. Next door to one in Chicago, they had a spiritual bookstore/cafe with feng shui products.

Thanks for the input. I expected them to be expensive but there are only two places in Birmingham where you can get decent food. Fresh Market which is similar to Whole Foods and also very expensive and the other is the chain, Publix, which carries some of the top brands and is more expensive than your average grocery store but fresh trumps cheap so I shop there.

I'm sure this has opened by now. Hope you got a flag store, which are the better ones. Shopping at Whole foods is a treat for me. We don't have one near by so, I always map them out when traveling.
