She sat by the pool, enjoying the warm sun. Inside, the phone rang and the little boy answered it, put it down and called for his big sister. She put the phone to her ear and listened. She cried. That night a car raced by the house and they cringed remembering the last time you had driven by that night when the two of you had a fight and she wasn’t answering your calls. The tears came, not her tears but the others’. She couldn’t cry. She wasn’t sad. She knew she would always be yours, just like you said.
