Does anyone have nicknames for their kids?

My name is a nick name lol. I wish parents wouldn't name there kids names (like say Kathryn) knowing they are going to call them something else (like say Katie), but anyway that's besides the point. My dad called me Katie-did. I always thought it was funny. I would always answer with Katie did what?

Yep I do. My oldest thought his name was Woobie until he was about three and we weaned him off before he started school. But, we have friends who moved away and every year when they visit they call him Woobie.

11 really got the nick names - brother bear, munchkin etc. Sometimes I'll call them small fry and medium fry - I'll call their dad large fry.

I forgot to mention I have a niece whose nickname is Sugar. Until she was about 3 she didn't know she had another name and her mom told us all to stop using the nickname and call her by her real name or she'd never know it.
Now as an adult, she signs her emails to me Sug. It evokes a lot of sweet (LOL you know what I mean) memories for me.

Yep, the oldest two go by shortened versions of their names, the next oldest, and currently only boy is Kiddo, the baby is PeeWee and my Aunt is Hun. I never had a nickname myself. Which is probably why I insist on giving them to all the kids. I'm named Annette after my grandma on my mom's side. But my dad's first wife's name was Ann, so God help anyone that tried calling me that around my mom.

I remember being called Pumpkin when I was really little but my nickname tends to be just adding a y to my name. It just seems like anyone who knows me any length of time as a friend ends up calling me Faithy without even realizing they are doing it.

My nick name when I was little was She-Bug, and now my daughter's nickname is Tater- Bug.

I was raised in a family of nine. At leat half of them had nicknames. It was very hard remembering all those names, especially when someone would call and ask for Catherine when we all knew her as Cassie. (named a real name then called a nick name, just like Kathryn) "Uh Who?" we'd say. No Catherine here.

My brother, Joe, who is now a doctor warned me when I named my son Joseph not to call him Joey because he has 7 sisters who call his office and ask if Joey is there. Needless to say, I never called my son Joey. My daughter Jacqulyn, has been called Jacqui since the day she was born.

I have several nicknames for my son depending on what the "lil monster" is up to. If he's being especially cute I call him cheeky face. If he's naughty its Alexander (stop that now!) If he's playing in the garden its Al.

I was called sissy. when i was real small. When i got older. some family from out of town was in to visit and they called me sissy and i didn't know who they were talking to. Then one day I finally realized my grandmother called me sissy all the time. I just was so use to it. I didn't even notice.
My daughter was called little Missy or Lucy. She loved to watch Lucy and still does.
My son was called bubbers. His sister started calling him that when he was little.
My husband was called Davy crockett

My nicknames have varied through out the years. When I was little my dad called me sweet pea and now he calls my daughter that. My grandmother calls me Jennifer. I hate it. It's not my name so I don't respond to it. If I do I ask her who is Jennifer and who she's talking to. She's got better with that.The most recent nickname other than the usual hunnie, sweetie, baby, and the occasional shorty my hubby throws in is fluff. I actually love this nickname.
During my pregnancy my hubby and I went pillow shopping. I always say you really can't test a pillow without testing it out. So, I layed my head down in the pillow cubicle at the store we were in. Long story short apparently some pillow fluff came out of one of the pillows and I didnt notice it. My husband didn't either intil we were almost at the regester. He saw a piece in my hair and goes what the heck and pulled the fluff from my hair. He then proceeded to say your full of sugar and spice and lots of fluff. So, fluff stuck..and even though I'm not pregnant now I still love this nickname.
As far as my newborn goes her name is Destiny.Occasionally I call her Dez for short. My uncle started calling her dusty and that's his special nickname for her. He orignially thought I said Dustiny instead of Destiny and well that stuck for her. Her father and I also call her pudding pop/pudding.(her dad even made a song to match that) and we also call her pretty girl, babygirl, pumpkin and little names like that. I'm sure something else will come about by the time she's a few years old.
My brother got the nickname Sky-Bob and Sky-walker...they stuck for him other than the usual Sky. His name is Skyler Robert..and well my other uncle decided to get creative.

When I was a child my parents called my scruffy because I was always in the mud. I would come in from being outside sometimes and have so much mud on me that they would make me take ALL of my clothes off outstid on the porch before I was allowed inside, then I had to go and get a bath. My real name is Kelli-Jo (yes it's all my first name) so I have a cousin (much older) that would always say "what do you know, it's Kelli-Jo" I loved that, not sure why but I did. Now that I'm older my boyfriend just calls me the normal; hunny, babe, sweety and so one. But as for as our child, he's 21 months and his name is Ethan George (first and middle) We call him E, Ethan, George (when he's in trouble), Frank~I'm not sure where that came from but he was looking in the marrior one time and told me that the baby in it was frank now he will walk around the house yelling for frank. But he's only going to be two so I'm sure as time goes on he will have many more names!

I won't get into how much i dislike my first name.....:-), my middle name is Khristine and I've always been Krissy or Pooh. Josh calls me "Dumplin' Pie when he's in trouble which generally serves to dig him a deeper hole!!!!!! Ha! Ha!

My kids are: ShaRayRay & Shah-lynna-bella (Shay), Koltie Lu (Kolten) and Klaytie Bear (Klayten). The boys have also been referred to as elder and younger son jokingly.

When Klayten was born my neice loooooooovvvveeeedddd him! She also had a speech impediment. Instead of Klayten he was Satan..........as he skreeches through my house at warp speed sometimes I wonder if she didn't have some foresight? LMAO

My oldest son was called Sunshine as his name is Ray, not Raymond just Ray, Our second eldest son Daniel was my AHHH!. because he would come up when he was little and actually even now at times ( he is 34 now ) and put his cheek on mine and say. Ahhhhhh! His way of showing he loves me. Then came Jeremiah, who became Jeremiah, mea, mo. Finally shortened just to MO. My daughter was Funny Face for all the cute faces she made. With some of my grandkids, my daughers kids especially her oldest Tamzi was called Tamzinator, then it got reduced to "Nator, her daughter Zariah everyone calls Zee, except her two year old brother who calls her Zawawa. Alzera got nicknamed Jazera because my husband combined her middle and first name her middle name being Jaszimine. Halona has had several from "The Midnight Siren" When she would get up in the middle of the night and wail, To the current one of which because she thinks she is Boss, she is called Boss which makes her mad. But mostly she is called Lona, or Hali, Or by her middle name Piper. Gerrin the only boy, is called "Little Man" or Ger.

My son (Chris) is Bud the Stud, or little man, and my daughter is Brina butt (Sabrina), babycakes, or Saab (came from the phrase Wuz up?)
When I was little I was turtle because I was fascinated with them, or monkey because I was a pretty good climber. My husband was Bud as a kid and since my son is Jr. he is also known as Bud jr. My husband also calls our kids Bud (because his name and he is a little trouble maker) and Kelly Bundy (because she is blonde), and he is Al (because the kids like to pick on him) but clarifies to everyone that I am NOT Peg.

My family never gave me a nickname. Had a few from friends as I got older. (those mostly about a certain body part and will refrain from mentioning even though they are not bad language).

My girls have a few.... both have been called sugar-bugar, monkey, etc. My daughter Macie has been called Moo-Moo or May-May and my daughter Kira has been called Kay-Kay or Kookie.

My daughters names are Amy and Christy. I thought no one would come up with nicknames out of the those two short names . Well I was wrong . Christy has always called Amy - " Ames " and as a child she refered to her as " My Amy" My Mom has always called Chisty, " Chrissy " but she is the only one who can get away with it . My husband loves to tease our girls and so i he would call them Amy Alligator and Christys Crocodile. He also called Amy - " Esmeralda" just to tease her and he got a lot of milege of that one . I called my sister Leslie who is 7.5 years younger than me , "the pest" or " Pestley " for a long time until she got old enough to insist that we quit calling her that . ( It was hard to stop she was indeed a pest when she was younger, LOL

Despite my attemps, still no kids of my own. But, my nieces and nephew are or have been.
Jacky~aka "Little Chicken" which later became "Dinks".
Mia~ aka "Miss Tinks" (they also named their boat "Miss Tinks".
Nina~ aka "Gertie" which has evolved to "Goo".
Elise~aka "Petunia".

I had a nephew who was called Paul-baby when he was little, then we didn't see him for a while. He came down for a visit when he was 10 and his 6 months older cousin called him that. When she landed on the floor she decided to call him Paul. I always called my son Steven, but he has shortened it to Steve. Now he named his son Steven, but tried to call him Steve, but he insists on Steven.

Eric, my 7yo, used to make a roaring sound when he was mad as a baby and my DH would say "is there a dinosaur in the house?" So he started to call Eric "T-Rex" but then my next oldest boy said "he's not a T-Rex, he's an E-Rex" so that was his nickname until just a few months ago. Now he wants to be called "Calvin" or "Hobbes" or "Tiger" or the latest "Danger" or "Stiger" - He actually told his preschool teacher his name was "frog". I still call him "E-Rex" and he will always be that to me...

My oldest son is "mad geek nerd" and "xen man"

My middle is "tornado"

and our baby is "cuddle bug" and "fuss monkey"

My son's name is Alexander and of course is called Alex... He also called Little Man.

My daughter's name is Ruby, but is called Ruby Lou sometimes but I will call her Scout quite often. It's always been one of my favorite nicknames.

Donovan (18), Evelyn(16) and Kate(14) are my three rapidly growing children. Cricket, Ladybug and Katydid were nicknames when they were good....Demonovan, Evilyn and Stinkerbell when they weren't lol. I've used "kidlet" and "my lovely" on all of them. There are tons of nicknames that have been used for each of them actually...Dono is used pretty regularly and Number 1 Son, Eldest, Trouble. Ev, Evy, Evils, and Rosebud all refer to my eldest daughter. Kat, Kiki, Kittykate, Tink, Tinkerbell, and Peapod are all my youngest.

if you love something or someone, you must have a special name-- so I think it is natural. Froggi is Froggi, but last night I heard his colleagues calling him by his proper name which is rather abnormal from my cultural background. To them he is Miroslav, but to me, he is Froggi which might be taken as ridicule for an internationally recognized pianist-- but I think that it communicates the love that I have for him and he is obviously fond of the name. It's personal.

And really it was pretty strange to hear the stage technicians calling him by his formal name, because even in public I use the short (cosi) form of Mirek and so the students must look at me strangely when I am calling their professor by this name. To them, he is Professor S____ but it is very strange to me.

I think it is inevitable and for me to use the formal name would be a signal of something else. Cultural traditions are different. So long as he is Froggi, I can manage the jokes and distance, but the use of his formal name would really make it very difficult for me and it is such a beautiful name, too. Maybe one day, I should use it in public and see what the reaction is, but I've never even done it in a private conversation. I call him Mir.

i told him it was the only name I wanted to keep as my own, but since I didn't have permission, I'd better not use it.

Let's see here. I've got Littlebit and Ladybug. Sometimes I can get Ladybug's attention by calling tallyalialiali, but she doesn't like that much. *chuckle*

OH! and when we were kids, my grandfather called us grandkids Crystal bananna the squirrel sprout, jwacquaylan, and macho runt. *laugh* Those are great memories :)

we call the kids lady-bud or liddle-bit, respectfully. If they do something amazingly goofy we call the freaklettes

Sorry to hear you don't like your first name. My mom hated her middle name and her whole life refused to tell people what it was. She always used her maiden name initial as her middle initial on important documents.

Our daughters name is Melina. She answers to Melina, Lina, Boop, Poopbear, and Boopenbear.

You could always add Molly as another of your names legally and still keep the name your mom insists on.
I have a friend whose give name is Mary Elizabeth but she's always been 'Becky' her whole life.
Her Dad didn't like her given name (he wasn't given a say in it) and from birth always called her Becky.
No one knows her as Mary at all, I don't know why she never changed it legally except for the cost.
