All one has to do today is keep the fire up, keep their clothes dry, don't listen to the growls and snuffles in the dark outside the firelight--in other words, survive the night, and get to a pay phone to call that reassuring voice. How do you suppose the 49er's felt without the amenities? And probably more predators near their fires?

Thank you Kimberly. I'm glad you found it. I quest for that place in my writing where I only say enough. Credit for that notion goes to my flight instructor who once told me during landing practice, "There is only 'just right', Jim. Not too fast, not too slow, not too high or low--work for it!" I do.
