What a terrible tragedy and loss. I'm sure that mother will live with that loss and guilt for the rest of her life. While no child should ever be left unattended, it is a horrible situation.

That's absolutly horrible! I couldn't live with myself if that was me. This woman is totally irresponsible and shows lack of good judgement. I really hope she gets some time because of this. I know that sounds harsh to some people but you don't leave young children alone in a vehicle or else where its irresponsible. It makes me wonder if she'll try to fight the charge because they weren't child proofed. To me its the same concept as people who put hot coffee between there legs and then try to sue the place they bought coffee from. It's common sense, you don't drive with hot coffee between your legs and you don't leave children unattended in a vechicle!

Why is it that we only recognize the stupidity of the choices we make after the fact? How could anyone think it was appropriate to leave two children in a car that had to have had the keys in it with the ignition running in order to make the window go up and down? I guess given February weather in Calgary she had to leave the engine running because otherwise it would have gotten too cold.

Fortunately, only one child was harmed and it wasn't a stranger's child. I feel very badly for the little girl but I can't help but feel that the mother deserves to suffer after pulling a stunt like that. I had clients in Alberta who lost their children to social services for much less serious in-attentions.

This very sad for this to happen. She is living with the consequences of her actions. I'm sure she will never do that again. She will be punished for the rest of her life with the loss of her child.

This is horrible! She must have been in the store for a LONG time, since the report said "While Coad was away from the SUV, the older child unbuckled Sienna because she was crying. But he fell asleep soon after" - I mean, a child doesn't just fall asleep after unbuckling their sibling. They must have been in there for hours. Anyway... it really doesn't matter how long they were in there, because it could have happened if it were only 1 minute... it's just sad that it had to happen in the 1st place.

This is so terrible - we never left our child (he's grown up now) in the car or anywhere alone! TOO much can happen, and this.. .is horrid. I hope they arrest her.

In my state is against the law to leave a child under the age of 16 in a motor vehicle, running or not. My kids have never been left in the car

Amylee- I was thinking the same thing. As far as I know even if you are in your driveway and leave your kids unattended to run back inside for something you forgot it's illegal. At least from what I was told here in my state as well.

golly that is awful.
I've never left my kid alone in the car, still don't and he is 10.
She should have some kind of severe punishment even though she'll have to live with herself and what she did the rest of her life.
I hope the big brother isn't blaming himself for unbuckling her.
