I agree. My Father had 12 kids and he measured up, we have three grown boys and grandchildren and Hubby still meets the measure for them all. 10

I have to agree with the premise that a measure of a man is how he takes care of his family and raises his children. Father's that don't do well in that area, emotionaly and otherwise, sometimes leave damaged children, therefore beginning a cycle. Sorry Corina for your kids.

I agree to a point, but what about how he takes care of his wife-hopefully the mother of the children? Does she not count?

Hmmmmm. I would say the measure of any man is how he handles and prioritizes responsibilities. That's the measure of any human being, really.

The measure of a man, or any human, as David points out, is how they handle and prioritize responsibility...and I would add that when there are children involved, the highest priority IS the children.

I agree, C . . . but it could also be argued that if the self isn't attended to, there will be nothing to give the children.

Bowing humbly to David the Sage... I think you've hit on something we often forget and the reason I sometimes find myself a total mess, yet my children do fine. We do tend to overlook ourselves and put others first then in the end, we risk falling apart and not being able to be there for the ones we need to and want to be there for.

I think the quote is absolutely true. A man who accomplishes much in his work life but isn't any good to anyone at home isn't worth it in my humble opinion. I would never measure a person by what they accomplished. How do their children relate to them? What does he share with his children? These are the things that matter.

Thank you, Joe. I agree. Of course I also agree with David's comments. Mike said something similar to David as well.

I hope what people take away from this is some self-reflection about the kind of job they are doing with respect to those around us. After all, we don't necessarily have to take the children part literally. All the world's children are our children.
