SOCIAL SECURITY:
(This is worth reading. It is short and to the point.)
Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.
Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they
do not collect from it.
You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare
elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many
years ago they voted in their
own benefit plan .
In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all,
it is a great plan.
For all practical purposes their plan works like this:
When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.
Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments..
This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries. For
example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw
$7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives
drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives.
Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the
rest of their lives.
Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA....ZILCH....
This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the
tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the
General Funds;
"OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"!
>From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into,-every
payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer)-we can expect to get
an average of $1,000 per month after retirement.
Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits
for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator! Bill Bradley's benefits!
Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.
That change would be to:
Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put
them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us
then sit back.....
and watch how fast they would fix it.
If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe
good changes will evolve.
How many people can YOU send this to? Better yet.....
How many people WILL you send this to??

Let's not forget the other part of this equation. Medicare! Not only strip congress of their "us only" retirement but no health care plan other than Medicare! "What's the problem oh, former congressmen? Have to pay money out of your tight budget for medicine? THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE FIXED IT WHEN YOU WHERE IN OFFICE!"
There is another thing that should happen to congress.... but first I must ask this.
Is being a member of congress a privilege- only the chosen few should get OR is it a responsibility to be a congressmen as a citizen of the USA? (like doing jury duty is) Ya, ya ya, I know in theory ANYONE can run for congress, but the truth is you'll never get in without lots of money backing you up. Does that mean that being a congressman is a privilege? NO! It just means this country has some problems. As a congressman you have a responsibility to your voters. Responsibility to do what is right NOT what will get you re-elected. They tried to put term limits on congress to no avail.... Well, what is good for the gander is good for the goose...
The president may not receive a pay incress while in office. One can be approved but the standing president will not receive it. Why can't congress be the same way? My proposal.... "congressmen shall only receive, for any and all time that they may be in office, the pay that was in force when they are first elected." In other words: no matter how long you are in, how many different time you were voted in/out and back in/out, what ever the pay was on the first day you were sworn in is the only pay level they will receive. NO COST OF LIVING ALLOWANCE INCREASE EITHER! It is your responsiblity as a citizen of the United States of America to be a congressman, not a privilege afford you because you had the money to shove your name down the electorates throat. ("Oooh, I not sure what the issues are or who the candidates are but I reconize that name so I'll vote for it.") If you do not want this respondiblity then do not seek office. Don't like your pay in congress any more? Then get out! Let another take on the responsibility.
So, we need to have two thing done. 1. Make congress buy into social security/medicare. 2. Cap their pay. I fear this only way this will ever happen is with a grassroots effort through constitutional amendments.
