I have to say, after watching this movie three times I was impressed with something I've not felt in some time, a real character driven, down to earth, great movie. No movie magic, CGI, or special effects here. Following the cinematic style of Goodfellas, Martin Scorsese directs a powerful movie deserving of an oscar, which would be his first.
The Departed tells the story of an Irish mob led by Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) who believes there is a rat(played by Leonardo DiCaprio) in his crew. Matt Damon is the Boston Mass. State Detective who was befriended by Costello when he was just a kid. His loyalty shows as he keeps Costello ahead of the cops set on bringing him down. And Mark Whalberg is the good Sargeant out to find the mole in the Police Department.
I would not do the movie justice trying to describe its fantastic plots and twists. All I could suggest is if your a fan of these actors or Martin Sheen and Alec Baldwin, you need to see this movie.
If anyone wants to share their opinions, best moments, or just talk "The Departed," I look foward to conversing with you.
Thanks,
Charles D

POS. Althought the movie started out brilliantly and
worked up to a terrific interest, it flung itself to pieces
trying to be too clever and not putting the same care
and detail in the second half of the plot as the first.
I have never seen a movie do this so dramatically so
that by the end I was angry that is was so bad.
Great performances and a fast paced and brilliant
setup utlimately wasted.
When you look at who Jack Nicholsen was attempting to play, namely I think it was someone like Whitey Bulgar(sp), but in general these gangster guys were snappy dressers and kind of tough guys. Jack Nicholsen did not play that true to style, he was just kind of evil. These guys do not get to be so successful by simply being evil.
TDC- Thnaks for the info, I never knew it was a remake. I'll have to check out the original and I will need to visit Blockbuster this weekend and check the other Asian horrors you spoke of.
The movie is based on a real life Mob character... Oh geez what is his name... The one who is on I believe the America's Top Ten Most Wanted list... As well... The guys like Mark Walhberg and Matt Damon, are home town boys who know oh so well about the legends and tells of the back drop of this movie... And they were more than pleased them self on how well the movie came out.
Thanks for commenting.
I have to agree with you...I LOVED this movie!
