No doubt my freinds and connections have noticed that I have not been on gather and participating as you are accustomed to seeing me. I apologize to each and everyone of you for that. I have made some really good friends through gather but here is the scoop.
I joined gather in June of last year. Yes writing is important to me it is part of who I am but I was also attracted to the fact that one can make a bit of money on gather as well. I write books, write for magazines and get paid for my writing but it hasn't turned into a full time job yet. So gather seemed like a great place to make some extra money.
By the time I realized that I was not getting nada, ziltch, zero money or gift cards for my efforts it was too late. I was hooked to gather. I loved the people and the community in general. It is unfortunate that gather only pays Americans. I put my heart and soul into everything I do on gather. I even started a birthday club where I prepare writeups and keep track of every memories duty. Obviously I didn't do it for the money. I did it for people that just wanted to be acknowledged on their special day.
Then my finances got worse. I am out of work, I cannot find a job and I can't make my monthly payments. I am out of money completely and one step away from being a street person. Please pray for me.
In the meantime because I have to think of myself first now before others, I have been actively looking for sites that pay Canadians for writing and I have found a few. I have no choice but to spend most of my free time there instead of here. If gather gets their act together and finally gets the contracts signed I will be back on full force but in the meantime, I cannot afford to give it away for free when I don't no where my next dollar is coming from.
Please don't write back and tell me have you tried this place and that place regarding the community and what it offers people out of work I am telling you know I have tried it all. However, if you have paying sites for writing for canadians, I am all ears as they say. But what my friends can do for me is pray and what gather can do is get it's act together once and for all.

I am so sorry to hear of your plight. My prayers for you will be offered to the One that can answer them according to His will. The power of prayer is enormous.
As for Gather, perhaps if more people are made aware that it is ONLY geared to people in the USA, then maybe more would get after them about doing things fairly to include all who join the site. I know I've also been looking at different places on the internet, and I'll go as far as filling things out with all of my information only to find out at the end in the rules that any money payable will only be to those who are a resident of the USA. Crazy...I'm still in the process of checking out a number of different sites for Canadians including doing surveys etc. but so far haven't made anything to speak of. All the best to you Carol.

You would never guess the horror I have been having just to get a paypal account open, I just can't believe it.
that is why I will be on gather less and less and looking for paying sites for canadians

I wish Gather would include Canadians in the payout department. I have heard this complaint from many.
