For those of you who read my Murphy’s Law rant, you already know that my 3 year old was sick on Wednesday. For those who don’t know, this is what happened. I get to work Wednesday and Walter calls to ask where Isak’s clean sheets are, as he got sick in his bed. He says Isak does not have a fever, so we are not too worried. Out of nowhere, just an offhanded remark, he says, “It was all peanut-buttery…” I don’t think too much of it, other than “Thanks for the visual” (I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did…), and I continue on in to start my workday.
At break time, I check my phone for messages, and I have a text from Walter that says, “Call me ASAP”. So I called him and he tells me that Isak has been throwing up for the last 4 hours. I call the doctor, get him an appointment, and leave work. The doctor looks him over and since there were no other symptoms, just says he has an upset tummy, gastroenteritis. Gave me a prescription to help settle his stomach and make the nausea go away.
Isak seems ok for the rest of the day. At dinnertime he is hungry and asks for a peanut butter sandwich, which I made for him. He still seems ok at bed time…but after a couple of hours we hear him in his room, and go in there to discover a “peanut-buttery” surprise in his bed again. I suddenly remember Walter’s statement from that morning and we decide that the peanut butter must be bad. Yesterday he is ok for most of the day except for getting sick once and it coming out the opposite end once as well this time. He is still acting fine and there is no fever so we just keep an eye on him to see if he gets worse, which he doesn’t.
This morning I am driving to work and hear on the radio that Peter Pan Peanut butter has been linked to salmonella poisoning…the number on the jar to look for is 2111. I send Walter a message to look at our jars and later get his reply “BINGO!” We never buy that brand, but it happened to be on sale for buy one get one free and being the savvy shopper that he is, Walter bought several jars a few months back. Poor Isak gets sick from both ends again this afternoon so I called the doctor and got him back over there because I have heard that salmonella can be deadly. The doctor looks him over…and sends me home with a few cups for “samples” that I have to return to them for analysis. I guess food poisoning is not as serious as I thought?? I guess my son is not going to die from this. I wouldn’t have wasted my time had I known this in the first place. By the time I get the sample it’s going to be out of his system anyway! Stupid doctors… no meds or anything. I hope he gets better fast, I hate it when my kids are sick.
Anybody else have episodes with this? It’s kinda funny because I told Walter last week that I didn’t like that peanut butter, there was something off about it. ESP? Who knows? For those of you who haven’t heard about this, CHECK your peanut butter!

The warning about the Peter Pan and Great Value have been posted here by a couple different people. I wish you would have seen it or heard about it sooner.
I hope he's feeling better!
