Ex-President for Sale | Part 6

Jimmy Carter's poorly written, error-filled and absurdly reasoned book, Palestine: Peace not Apartheid, is rising on the best-seller lists, as reviews continue to rip its contents to shreds. This book, whose weak content hardly merits review, is generating so much attention because of the author's status as a former president, and because it threatens to lend legitimacy to some of the worst sort of bigotry. The Anti-Defamation League has documented the extraordinary number of hate sites that are featuring Carter's book and the outrageous statements he has made about "the Jews" in his media interviews. Here, as found by the ADL are some highlights:

But, the point is that Carter's book is just as dangerous to the bloodthirsty and hyper-controlling Zionists as they think it is. They're right to fear and hate it. The book is a lever of truth. A tool. A godsend.

We need to encourage Jimmy in any way that we can, as this opportunity may be literally 'heaven sent'. As a matter of fact, opportunity is knocking loud as hell! Send him positive emails, and give positive feedback at Amazon.com or anywhere else that you can. Now is the time to fan the flames and strike while the iron is red hot!

American complicity in 40 years of Israeli aggression, killing, ethnic cleansing, bigotry, oppression and occupation in Palestine is utterly disgraceful.  If only the American people knew the truth. More Americans should speak up like Carter.

Right now I see the whole world beginning to sense the end of Jewish political power. That's why Mel and Jimmy Carter are saying and doing the things they are, and their defiance of Jewish rath [sic] is also part of the cause of the fall of Jewish power. It's a snow ball effect. Now who is afraid of the big bad Jew?

did anyone happen to see jimmy carter on jacob lenstein (aka jay leno)? he knows whats going on with the kikes. he was promoteing his new book PEACE NOT APARTIED: IN PALESTINE. he was actually defending the palestinians i could not believe it. but he was careful in what he said, but he did say about the number of palestinians being killed dailey by the israelie gorillas. and boy did "jay" get cold and quiet, quick to defend israel by saying what great alies they are,(uhgg, why cant people see). and true to jew form, he is now being attacked and accused of plagerism. thats what the kikes do, instead owning up to the truth they just falsely slander and blackball him. thats what a filthy dirty kike does. in this country it is only acceptable to hate white people and arabs. these dity parisites must be erraticated, such like a tape worm. white power.

'Because of powerful political, economic, and religious forces in the United States, Israeli government decisions are rarely questioned or condemned,'" the former president writes.  Translation: 'The United States has a Zionist Occupied Government.' Amen.

If anyone knows the truth about the Middle East, it's Carter. He was dealing with this same 'peace process' BS 30 years ago. Israel is the problem and does not want any semblance of peace. The more wars, the better. Always has been the case, always will be.

How about everything else the Jews have corrupted through their pernicious influence, like our government, our financial institutions, and the economic future of our children and grandchildren. Maybe Carter has thought this through and truly believes the best way to bring down the power of the Jewish monopoly is through the exposing of the attrocities of the Nation of Israel itself.

Carter decided to quit being a Zionist puppet (as he was during his presidency), and actually starts exposing the lies of Israel. That's when he gets slandered by 'anti-racism' (pro jewish racism) groups like the ADL and SPLC, in addition to the rest of the mainstream media.

I am so glad that people are finally stating their beliefs on the Jews and hopefully it will continue. As for Carter, he knew the attacks would start with the book publishing. He did not waiver and has gained much respect from many people around the world!

This extremism isn't just on paper. When Amazon.com allowed a critical review of Carter's book to appear on its website, there was a firestorm-and calls for boycott, led by former San Francisco Chronicle columnist Henry Norr. The petition attracted almost 19,000 signatures before Amazon placed a puff-piece interview with Carter on its site, thus handling the book with the kid-gloves that anti-Israel extremists demanded.

I've been a critic of Carter's books. My writings are quite critical of his substantive positions. I have been specific and detailed in pointing out his numerous mistakes. Yet I challenge my readers to find any websites that use my words in a way comparable to how anti-Israel and anti-Semitic extremists have used Carter's words. They don't exist. Something that I understand-and that I wish Carter had acted on-is that writers have a responsibility when writing about hot-button topics, especially those as sensitive as the Israel-Palestine conflict, to write in a way that doesn't feed the fires of hatred and bigotry.

Carter will surely respond that it is not his fault how others have used what he has said to promote bigotry. But in this case it is very much his fault because any reasonably intelligent and media savvy person would have to realize that when you start playing with classic anti-Semitic stereotypes, such as Jewish control of the media and dual loyalty of Jewish politicians, you will ignite a firestorm of bigotry. Moreover, I know for a fact that Carter was warned about this before he published his book with its deliberately inflammatory title. Carter made his statements about the Jews with full knowledge of how they would be used by neo-Nazis like David Duke, anti-Semites like Norman Finklestein, Islamic extremists, America-haters and the like. He crawled into bed with them to sell his books and to assure the flow of megadollars from the Holocaust deniers and anti-Semites who fund him and his Center.

Carter must be judged by the company that he keeps and by the company that keeps him.

He has done more to damage the Jewish community in American than any public figure since Charles Lindbergh and Henry Ford. He will be remembered, along with them, as enemies of the Jewish people and of truth. He will also be remembered by history as a friend of America's tyrannical enemies, having supported virtually every left-wing tyranny in the world, from North Korea to Cuba to Syria. What a legacy! An enemy of the most persecuted minority in history; a friend of tyranny; and ultimately an enemy of the nation that trusted him with its presidency. All for a pot of dirty money.

Alan, you are being too kind to this worthless Dhimmi Prostitute. His worst crime was the damage he has caused and is causing to the security of people that value Freedom. He harmed America more than any other person, country, or force of nature.

We have yet to experience the death and destruction Carter put into motion with his cynical negligence of America's security while president.

Our little Dhimmi Carter lying again. Carter defended "ethnic purity" in neighborhoods on April 3, 1976. He would obviously like the world once again to be Judenrein, ie pure of any Jewish blood thereby restoring "ethnic purity".

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,914056,00.html

"The furor began when Carter was asked in Indianapolis to explain his recent statement that there was "nothing wrong with ethnic purity being maintained" in neighborhoods. Carter replied that he wholeheartedly supports open-housing laws that make it a crime to refuse to sell or rent a house or apartment on the grounds of race, color or creed. But he opposes Government programs "to inject black families into a white neighborhood just to create some sort of integration." Said he: "I have nothing against a community that is made up of people who are Polish, or who are Czechoslovakians, or who are French Canadians or who are blacks trying to maintain the ethnic purity of their neighborhoods. This is a natural inclination." "

Alan, meet Martin L., he is the voice of extremism of which you speak, except his hatred is for Islam, which seems eminently acceptable in the media and here on Gather tragically. If you recall you yourself used, and defended your use of the bigoted term, Islamofascist. You have also confirmed that you accept that merely being anti-Israeli does not denote that one is anti-Semitic. Perhaps you could educate Martin L. and the other bigots her on Gather, but in the meantime desist from using the Whitehouse's phrase of the moment "Islamofascist"?
I am sure you are aware that ANY criticism of Israeli automatically afflicts the critic with the label of anti-semitism. The fact that Jimmy Carter had the courage to confront the crimes of the Israeli state says volumes for him as a humanitarian. He has chosen to speak out against injustice when he is only too well aware of the consequences. Should we all sit back and accept injustice when it rears it's ugly head? Or hide from it despite the possible consequences? The fact that trash like David Duke has his own opinion of Jewish people does not invalidate Jimmy Carter's commentary in relation to Israel, in fact it has no relevance as you are only too well aware. The sole purpose of dragging David Duke into the picture, ( a WASP who hates EVERYBODY except his own kind), is to demonise Carter and to demonise anyone who supports his views. It is very cheap shot which serves no useful purpose.
Carter's intention was to highlight injustice, injustice perpetrated by the Israeli state, not "a" or "the" Jewish state, but the state of Israel, and it's government.

Legitimate criticism of terrorism is not "hatred of Islam". Pointing out aspects of Islam in the Quran which are, in fact, anti-human, prejudicial, and incitatory, is not "hatred of Islam".

Anti-Semitic rants, when called for what they are, does not constitute a charge of anti-Semitism used as an attack on those who disagree. There is a difference between an unsupported charge of anti-semitism, and one backed up by hard evidence of the speaker's own words.

In fact, if one compares the two behaviors above, one can see a worked example of the psychological mechanism of projection--imagining in the "other" one's own sins.

David I suggest you do a search for some of Martin's other comments. There is no other possible way to construe what he says other than a hatred of Islam. You should also perhaps have a look at the Old Testament and you will see how "anti-human, prejudicial, and incitatory". I am not particularly religious so I honestly could not care less about religion per se, but on a human level, to debase and to demonise one billion people purely because of some of the text within a book which a person chooses to have absolute faith in, is nothing more than prejudice.

I don't follow what you are trying to say in your last paragraph. Please clarify.

All this terrorism is the fault of the jews. If we jews were not so naive by rewarding terrorism at Oslo, and rewarding terror with a state, "palestine" we would not be in this mess. Aipac, Dershowitz, and all those that rewarded the terrorist pals should now take a cold hard look at their judgment. A mea culpa, like Chamberlain did after being double crossed by Uncle Adolf Hitler.

Like bernard lewis said, we are in the third Global War against islam, the first being the Moore's, second being the Ottoman empire, and the third "reich" we are witnessing now.

Dershowitz should know this, he spoke via satelite at the herzylia conference, where bernard lewis, and Woosley made excellent presentations.

I hate Islam because the Quran espouses racism, hundreds of millions of Muslims believe that drivel literally, and tens of millions of Muslims are willing to carry out their plan for world domination and.or destruction.

I don't what I can say, beyond that of a lady, that would describe the contempt I have for this individual. I am a conservative Christian, and I love the Jewish people. I believe they are God's chosen people, and we shall desert them. Beyond religion, if there is such a thing, it is indecent to induce and to actively support the destruction of a people. Period.

Thank you for taking the time to write this 6 part commentary. You and I may not agree on many things but on this? I agree with you. Have a good day.

Very glad I did not waste alot of money on Harvard.

First: "Zionist" is not a "hate" term. In fact, Jewish peoples have used the word to characterize the movement calling for a return to the homeland since before the
founding of Israel after World War 2. When Zionism is used in a derogatory way it is usually to denote its questionable methods: namely removing one people from their homeland so you can build your own state using an imported population that somehow "owns" the land. We all get the Jewish people have suffered throughout history, but that does not excuse what Israel has done to the Palestinians.

You mistake criticism for hate in many other places as well:

"American complicity in 40 years of Israeli aggression, killing, ethnic cleansing, bigotry, oppression and occupation in Palestine is utterly disgraceful. If only the American people knew the truth. More Americans should speak up like Carter."

It would have been nice to see some citations here. Sorry if the ADL is not what I consider a trustworthy source.

Glad this is finally over with!

I am thoroughly disgusted with you Alan Dershowitz for all this inflammatory bull and your despicable atitude toward President Carter. He has spent the years since his presidency helping the poor in our country, monitoring elections for their honesty in foreign countries, and attempting to spread a peaceful message in conflicts such at the one between Israel and its neighbors. As long as we are sending dollars and weapons and positive feelings to Israel you are happy as a clam but you cannot abide any criticism of Israel whether it is true or not! All we have to do is watch the news to see the walls and gates that have been built to keep the Arabs out of areas that have been confiscated from them.
I read and saw many decent Jewish citizens who were indignant when the rules changed and among other totally unfair laws formed by the conservatives in the government, Israeli citizens who opposed the new laws were no longer allowed to even give an Arab a ride in their autos without putting themselves in jeopardy! Yours is not the only opinion held by Jewish citizens but as usual you put yourself above any and all dissenters and insist yours is the only opinion that matters and should be followed.
You (typical lawyer) are SO wonderful at making your bigotted point of view sound reasonable and sensible-how else would you be so great at getting murderers exonerated! Thank God for America that you have not been responsible for the progress made here toward equality for all.
You are not qualified to wipe the dust from the shoes of Jimmy Carter, who has given the world so much of himself.

Alan, I have been following your posts, and have read your books, the Carter book, and the recent essay by Alvin Rosenfeld. Putting all this together, it seems clear to me that reasonable people concur that the two state solution is where we should end up; the qustion is, how do we get there?

I'd like to see some posts on what ideas people have to move us forward to that outcome.

The two state solution is just nazi Germany occupying Sudetanland in Czechoslovakia again. Like the nazis felt about the Sudetanland, Muslims believe israel stole all the land of the West and East bank of Palestine, they do not want the "thief" to give back just half. And like the world trade center, the Muslims will be back again and again and again until they acheive their goal, which is Muslim Supremacy, ...or unless they are utterly vanquished and defeated like the Ottoman empire, or the Moors.

Virtually, all of the global murder today, involves Muslims. Sudan, Darfur, Pakistan v India, Iraqis v Iraqis, Iraqis v Persians, African Christians, v African Muslims, Thai Muslims v Thai Budhists, etc.. The numbers are staggering and in the millions in the past few years.

By the way, Christianity is the other religion besides Islam that believes in making other religions "an offer they can't refuse" ie active conversion . And Islam is OFFICIALY the supreme religion and non muslims are second class citizens at best, and dead in the case of the Eastern religions since they are "idol worshippers" according to the racist Quran. The second class non Muslims are refered to as "Dhimmis", as in Dhimmi Carter.

If G-D forbid the jews are wiped out, or nearly wiped out, rest assured of one thing : The rest of the Free world will be next, just like in WWII. For nazis and other Jew haters, that is a price they are all too willing to pay, since a true Jew hater is willing to destroy himself in order to murder Jews.

I've made most of my comments in previous articles already. What surprises me the most here is that it's OK to disagree Mr. D., Israel, etc. But it doesn't make Carter a good guy in middle east issues, and certainly doesn't excuse the continuing violence against Israeli's either.
I don't know how to have a two state solution David W., when one side doesn't want one at present. Peace, though maybe not easy, is also not that difficult when both sides really want it. Sadat of Egypt proved that, but did pay with his life afterward. It still stands though, due to his and Egypt's commitment for it.
Thanks for the series Mr. D. It certainly sparked a lot of debate.

Carter was a learned man? Read what a fraud he is. Take his CV for example. Do a google search. Carter pimped himself as a "nuclear engineer". The reality is he supposedly took a correspondence course about nuclear terminology from Union college, but there is no record of that anywhere, even in Union college.

His entry to Annopolis was defered for over a year because he had to take remedial math classes at Georgia tech. And Annapolis was not too particular in the middle of WWII.

The liar Carter said he had never been called a racist, but on April 3, 1976 he sure was called a Racist by many for advocating "ethnic purity".

And remember this, as much as people hate Bush now, Carter had the lowest Approval rating of any President, and at the very low 30's even lower than Bush today according to Rasmussen.

The people who defend Carter are not too hard to fool. THEY CAN BE CALLED WHAT THEY ARE : FOOLS.

Once again Mr. Dershowitz you have written another extremely biased piece on Mr. Carter's book. Once again I will point out that not only do you teach and mold the young minds of your students, but you also sit on a board that legalizes and defends ethnic cleansing in Israel. The term "zionist" is NOT racist. When buying property in the occupied Israel, you will often find "located in a pro-Zioninst community". It is not a slur of sorts, but a definition of one of the most radical movements known to man to displace the "goyim" and "arabs" from their native lands by any and ALL means necessary. I wish you would stop being a spokesperson for hate yourself and start accepting the fact that you are the likes of you are fuming over Mr. Carter's book simply because it discloses the truths that you and the likes of you have been trying to hide and change in our history books for almost 60 years. The simple and plain truth is that there is apartheid in Palestine. The Zionist ruling government of Israel kills innocent children on a daily basis and the world does not bat an eyelash. The people of Palestine are suffering at the hands of people who, mostly, have no ancient or recent ancestry linked to the lands of Palestine. You should also not equate Anti-Zionist to Anti-Jewish mentality. One cannot honestly say they are true, Torah believing Jews and follow Zionism. The two completely contradict each other. That is why you will find such outrage in the Jewish community when it comes to the land theft and ethnic cleansing of Palestine. I wish you well Mr. Dershowitz, and I know that you know the truth of the matter and are just doing your job and lying for the benefit of the signers of your big fat paychecks. Just remember you will be held accountable for your actions, maybe not now by people, but by a much higher power known as G.D. Shalom, Salaam and Peace.

Lauren wishes that the "powerful pro Israel lobby" would do something about the Sudan. In fact, Jewish organizations are very involved in trying to prevent genocide in the Sudan. As am I. The problem is that some of the same governments that support the Palestinian cause against Israel also support the Sudanese government in its genocide. Moreover, the hard left is so busy demonstrating against Israel, that they seem to have little time, resources or energy to focus on real human rights abuses such as those in the Sudan.

Peter makes the common mistake of describing the Palestinians as "the people who fled after the creation of the state of Israel." No, they fled after all the Arab states invaded Israel, killed one percent of the Israeli population and tried to complete Hitler's genocide. The Palestinian leadership joined in this effort to destroy Israel and this caused the flight of the Palestinians.

The post by One Voice is a good example of the anti-Semitism that has accompanied the Carter book. They claim that I "sit on a board that legalizes and defends ethnic cleansing in Israel," and that I receive "big fat checks" from some unnamed group, probably the "Elders of Zion." I'm an independent person who takes orders from no one and sits on no such boards. By the way, what is one voice, and who's voice is it?

One Voice get off your high trojan horse and just remember this:

Millions have been murdered by Islam in the past few years, compared to a couple of thousand Pals who have died in a defensive war by Israel against Palestinian/Islamic terror.

500 Palestinians were murdered by Muslim Sunnis in Iraq alone recently.

Now who is the racist and murderer. It is the Islamists. Islamists are murdering in :

India Islamists are murdering the Hindus.
Lebanon - Islamists are murdering the Christians
Africa - Islamists are murdering the tribal religions and the Chrsitians by the hundreds of thousands including
Sudan - Muslim northern Sudan murdering the Southern African Sudanese
Darfur - hundreds of thousands of muslims murdering each other
Iran Iraq war - millions of Sunnis murdered and still murdering shiites
Iraq - thousands of shiites and sunnis murdering each other
Thailiand - Islamists murdering budhists
Phillipines - Islamists murdering Christians
Iran - Islamists murdering Bahaiis

I could go on and on to Chechnya, Balkans, "palestine"

Who is the racist ? Jews cannot own land by law in Jordan
Who is the racist ? Jews cannot enter mecca or medina under penalty of death
Who is the racist ? All non muslims are officially second class in most Islamic countries

Who is the racist? Women are second class in most Muslim countries and cannot drive in Saudi Arabia for example

Which is the fascist society ? There are no Arab democracies including Lebanon

Which society ids fascist ? There are no democracies virtually in the fifty plus Muslim countries, except for Turkey and Bangledesh

Which society loves murder and war ? The official government of palestine Hamas calls for the Destruction of Israel in their charter

Ahhhh, at last we have reached Article 6 and The End.

Somehow using half your space to quote bigotry and intolerence seems wasteful unless there is little of substance to put forward. Antagonizing differences in point of view is works for Limbaugh but is unseemly in one purported to be so erudite and influential as yourself, professor. Ther's so much inflammatory material out there I am curious as to how you managed to select the passages you chose.

You characterize those of us who would defend President Carter's observations on the plight of Palestinians (within the enlighted grandeur of Israel's humanitarian and inclusionary policies) with a limited variety of descriptors. I would prefer not to be lumped in with "neo-Nazis like David Duke, anti-Semites like Norman Finklestein, Islamic extremists, America-haters and the like".

If Carter's describing Palestinian living conditions within and adjacent to Israel as conterproductive to that country's stated goals and intent - an apartheid, so to speak - makes the former President an enemy "of the Jewish people and of truth", your concept of how one becomes an "enemy" of Israel is more than a little frightening.

I would worry much more about such a thin skinned, scientifically skillful, nuclear equipped nation whose intelligence operatives are as intrusive and ubiquitous (and more competent and morally unadorned than even the renditionists at the CIA) than I would fear a mob of stone and bottle throwing scud missile firing religeous fanatics.

Death is death for any victim of military action. Terror is terror whether from a scud missile or an incendiary cluster bomb. Some techniques may be more effective than others, but the word 'terrorist' varies in meaning with the user - just like 'apartheid'.

The shrillness of your attack on Carter as the "friend" of "virtually every left-wing tyranny in the world, from North Korea to Cuba to Syria" is so biased and self-serving a misrepresentation of reality as to join the bigoted quotes you have used to enlarge the size of your article. Perhaps the problem is that Carter has not declared himself the "enemy" of anyone which makes you feel he is a 'friend' to those with whom you have an agenda. If he is not the enemy of your enemy, he can no longer be your friend.

I see that Mr Dershowitz is resorting to the last recourse for the Israelophiles. While being cautious note to label Jimmy Carter an anti-semite outright, he appears to be suggesting Carter is some sort of cheeleader for anti-semitism, (similarly to the tactic of mentioning Carter and David Duke in the same breath).

It is the last recourse for the Israelophile because it is their only means by which they hope to silence the overwhelming criticism of the Israeli state and it's policies towards the Palestinians. It is quite pathetic.

If the only the thing you can do is slander and abuse your opponent then you have lost the argument, as if that was not clear enough already Mr Dershowtiz (and your Gather fan club).

Anyone can call anyone names, but the objective facts speak for themselves. Islam is a failed society by any reasonable measure. Why do Jews win about 100 times more Nobel prizes than their Islamic "cousins" per capita. Are they smarter, nope. Its just that one society is living in the 7th century and obsessed with murder, the other society, Jewish, is obsessed with contributing to humanity.

Why are so many Islamists living in squalor ?
Why are so many Islamists murdering each other ?
Why are so many islamists terrorists ?
Why did so many Islamists support the Nazis ?
Where are Islamist women of political power ?
Where is the technology produced by Islamist society, the medical advances ?

Betcha can't answer because despite all the rhetoric and smoke and mirrors, Islam is a failed , backward, racist, oppresive society. Losers attract losers. All the marches and double talk and speeches can't turn chicken sh**t into chicken salad.

The truth may hurt, but there is not one Arab country that even comes close to Israel in any category that any reasonable person can be proud of.
If israel did not exist, Islam would still be that failed backward racist, evil, excuse laden , sexist, opressive, murderous, supracillious, hypocritical, superstitous, excuse for a civilization. They got lucky by living on top of oil. Without that, they would be even more pathetic.

Mr Dershowitz should you return to this thread I would be interested in you opinions on Martin L's opinions. This is the sort of person you are associated with, a rabid hater of Muslims, ( Islam/ Muslims, oddly enough it's the same thing Martin!).

To use your own phrase, you have "climbed into bed" with these kind of bigots. You choose to associate Jimmy Carter with anti-semitism (by proxy), so obviously you can be tarnished with the same slur, in this case, anti-Muslim. No doubt David Duke supports you and Martin L. too, along with any number of rabid right-wing bigots. Does it feel good to be casually labelled in the manner in which you have casually labelled Mr Carter?

People in glass houses....

Islamism is really no different than naziism. And the Muslims in the world at best, would be like the non-Nazi German citizens under nazi rule. Thats because Islam, like the supremism of naziism, maintains it is the supreme religion that must dominate the world. And millions of Islamists believe that. And thanks to the past and present efforts of Dhimmi Carter, with nukes in these Islamists hands, that might become a reality.

That is the reality of the world today. That is the legacy of Dhimmi Carter. Carter's Jew hating, though great, pales in comparison.

Thats why the Taliban form of Islamist terrorists, as opposed to say the Hamas brand of Islamist terrorists, or the Fatah brand of Islamist terrorists, or the Hezbollah brand of Islamic terrorists, blew up statues of peaceful Buddah in Afghanistan.

And those are just the facts ma'am.

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't the "religion of peace" invent the holocaust and genocide. Weren't the Ottoman Turks Muslim ? Didn't they murder and attempt to wipe out Armenians in 1915 ?

Didn't the religion of peace murder 1.5 million Armenian civilians ? Didn't the Ottoman Turks claim to be fighting as Muslims for Islam ? Weren't the Armenians Christians ?
Now if some rag tag Muslim turks with rifles can murder 1.5 million Armenian Christians, imagine what can be done today with nuclear weapons ?

Ya gotta love Islam, truly a religion of peace, and their defenders, not an ounce of hypocrisy among them.

Spanish conquest of South America? The genocide of the native Americans? Just a couple to start you off Martin. There are a TON of genocides by "Christian" armies if you care to look. Sadly we don't have any recent Israeli genocides, we do have massacres by them in their short modern existence. There is a gap of over 1500 years between modern and ancient Israel so it would be difficult to tell whether they commited genocide in their previous incarnation.

Camp David Accords
September 17, 1978

After twelve days of secret negotiations at Camp David, the Israeli-Egyptian negotiations were concluded by the signing at the White House of two agreements. The first dealt with the future of the Sinai and peace between Israel and Egypt, to be concluded within three months. The second was a framework agreement establishing a format for the conduct of negotiations for the establishment of an autonomy regime in the West Bank and Gaza. The Israel-Egypt agreement clearly defined the future relations between the two countries, all aspects of withdrawal from the Sinai, military arrangements in the peninsula such as demilitarization and limitations, as well as the supervision mechanism. The framework agreement regarding the future of Judea, Samaria and Gaza was less clear and was later interpreted differently by Israel, Egypt, and the US. President Carter witnessed the accords which were signed by Egyptian President Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Begin.

Text:

THE CAMP DAVID ACCORDS
The Framework for Peace in the Middle East

Muhammad Anwar al-Sadat, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Menachem Begin, Prime Minister of Israel, met with Jimmy Carter, President of the United States of America, at Camp David from September 5 to September 17, 1978, and have agreed on the following framework for peace in the Middle East. They invite other parties to the Arab-Israel conflict to adhere to it.

Preamble

The search for peace in the Middle East must be guided by the following:

* The agreed basis for a peaceful settlement of the conflict between Israel and its neighbors is United Nations Security Council Resolution 242, in all its parts.

* After four wars during 30 years, despite intensive human efforts, the Middle East, which is the cradle of civilization and the birthplace of three great religions, does not enjoy the blessings of peace. The people of the Middle East yearn for peace so that the vast human and natural resources of the region can be turned to the pursuits of peace and so that this area can become a model for coexistence and cooperation among nations.

* The historic initiative of President Sadat in visiting Jerusalem and the reception accorded to him by the parliament, government and people of Israel, and the reciprocal visit of Prime Minister Begin to Ismailia, the peace proposals made by both leaders, as well as the warm reception of these missions by the peoples of both countries, have created an unprecedented opportunity for peace which must not be lost if this generation and future generations are to be spared the tragedies of war.

* The provisions of the Charter of the United Nations and the other accepted norms of international law and legitimacy now provide accepted standards for the conduct of relations among all states.

* To achieve a relationship of peace, in the spirit of Article 2 of the United Nations Charter, future negotiations between Israel and any neighbor prepared to negotiate peace and security with it are necessary for the purpose of carrying out all the provisions and principles of Resolutions 242 and 338.

* Peace requires respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every state in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force. Progress toward that goal can accelerate movement toward a new era of reconciliation in the Middle East marked by cooperation in promoting economic development, in maintaining stability and in assuring security.

* Security is enhanced by a relationship of peace and by cooperation between nations which enjoy normal relations. In addition, under the terms of peace treaties, the parties can, on the basis of reciprocity, agree to special security arrangements such as demilitarized zones, limited armaments areas, early warning stations, the presence of international forces, liaison, agreed measures for monitoring and other arrangements that they agree are useful.

Framework

Taking these factors into account, the parties are determined to reach a just, comprehensive, and durable settlement of the Middle East conflict through the conclusion of peace treaties based on Security Council resolutions 242 and 338 in all their parts. Their purpose is to achieve peace and good neighborly relations. They recognize that for peace to endure, it must involve all those who have been most deeply affected by the conflict. They therefore agree that this framework, as appropriate, is intended by them to constitute a basis for peace not only between Egypt and Israel, but also between Israel and each of its other neighbors which is prepared to negotiate peace with Israel on this basis. With that objective in mind, they have agreed to proceed as follows:

A. West Bank and Gaza

1. Egypt, Israel, Jordan and the representatives of the Palestinian people should participate in negotiations on the resolution of the Palestinian problem in all its aspects. To achieve that objective, negotiations relating to the West Bank and Gaza should proceed in three stages:

1. Egypt and Israel agree that, in order to ensure a peaceful and orderly transfer of authority, and taking into account the security concerns of all the parties, there should be transitional arrangements for the West Bank and Gaza for a period not exceeding five years. In order to provide full autonomy to the inhabitants, under these arrangements the Israeli military government and its civilian administration will be withdrawn as soon as a self-governing authority has been freely elected by the inhabitants of these areas to replace the existing military government. To negotiate the details of a transitional arrangement, Jordan will be invited to join the negotiations on the basis of this framework. These new arrangements should give due consideration both to the principle of self-government by the inhabitants of these territories and to the legitimate security concerns of the parties involved.

2. Egypt, Israel, and Jordan will agree on the modalities for establishing elected self-governing authority in the West Bank and Gaza. The delegations of Egypt and Jordan may include Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza or other Palestinians as mutually agreed. The parties will negotiate an agreement which will define the powers and responsibilities of the self-governing authority to be exercised in the West Bank and Gaza. A withdrawal of Israeli armed forces will take place and there will be a redeployment of the remaining Israeli forces into specified security locations. The agreement will also include arrangements for assuring internal and external security and public order. A strong local police force will be established, which may include Jordanian citizens. In addition, Israeli and Jordanian forces will participate in joint patrols and in the manning of control posts to assure the security of the borders.

3. When the self-governing authority (administrative council) in the West Bank and Gaza is established and inaugurated, the transitional period of five years will begin. As soon as possible, but not later than the third year after the beginning of the transitional period, negotiations will take place to determine the final status of the West Bank and Gaza and its relationship with its neighbors and to conclude a peace treaty between Israel and Jordan by the end of the transitional period. These negotiations will be conducted among Egypt, Israel, Jordan and the elected representatives of the inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza. Two separate but related committees will be convened, one committee, consisting of representatives of the four parties which will negotiate and agree on the final status of the West Bank and Gaza, and its relationship with its neighbors, and the second committee, consisting of representatives of Israel and representatives of Jordan to be joined by the elected representatives of the inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza, to negotiate the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan, taking into account the agreement reached in the final status of the West Bank and Gaza. The negotiations shall be based on all the provisions and principles of UN Security Council Resolution 242. The negotiations will resolve, among other matters, the location of the boundaries and the nature of the security arrangements. The solution from the negotiations must also recognize the legitimate right of the Palestinian peoples and their just requirements. In this way, the Palestinians will participate in the determination of their own future through:

1. The negotiations among Egypt, Israel, Jordan and the representatives of the inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza to agree on the final status of the West Bank and Gaza and other outstanding issues by the end of the transitional period.
2. Submitting their agreements to a vote by the elected representatives of the inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza.
3. Providing for the elected representatives of the inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza to decide how they shall govern themselves consistent with the provisions of their agreement.
4. Participating as stated above in the work of the committee negotiating the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan.

4. All necessary measures will be taken and provisions made to assure the security of Israel and its neighbors during the transitional period and beyond. To assist in providing such security, a strong local police force will be constituted by the self-governing authority. It will be composed of inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza. The police will maintain liaison on internal security matters with the designated Israeli, Jordanian, and Egyptian officers.

5. During the transitional period, representatives of Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and the self-governing authority will constitute a continuing committee to decide by agreement on the modalities of admission of persons displaced from the West Bank and Gaza in 1967, together with necessary measures to prevent disruption and disorder. Other matters of common concern may also be dealt with by this committee.

6. Egypt and Israel will work with each other and with other interested parties to establish agreed procedures for a prompt, just and permanent implementation of the resolution of the refugee problem.

B. Egypt-Israel

1. Egypt-Israel undertake not to resort to the threat or the use of force to settle disputes. Any disputes shall be settled by peaceful means in accordance with the provisions of Article 33 of the U.N. Charter.

2. n order to achieve peace between them, the parties agree to negotiate in good faith with a goal of concluding within three months from the signing of the Framework a peace treaty between them while inviting the other parties to the conflict to proceed simultaneously to negotiate and conclude similar peace treaties with a view the achieving a comprehensive peace in the area. The Framework for the Conclusion of a Peace Treaty between Egypt and Israel will govern the peace negotiations between them. The parties will agree on the modalities and the timetable for the implementation of their obligations under the treaty.

C. Associated Principles

1. Egypt and Israel state that the principles and provisions described below should apply to peace treaties between Israel and each of its neighbors - Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

2. Signatories shall establish among themselves relationships normal to states at peace with one another. To this end, they should undertake to abide by all the provisions of the U.N. Charter. Steps to be taken in this respect include:

1. full recognition;
2. abolishing economic boycotts;
3. guaranteeing that under their jurisdiction the citizens of the other parties shall enjoy the protection of the due process of law.

3. Signatories should explore possibilities for economic development in the context of final peace treaties, with the objective of contributing to the atmosphere of peace, cooperation and friendship which is their common goal.

4. Claims commissions may be established for the mutual settlement of all financial claims.

5. The United States shall be invited to participated in the talks on matters related to the modalities of the implementation of the agreements and working out the timetable for the carrying out of the obligations of the parties.

6. The United Nations Security Council shall be requested to endorse the peace treaties and ensure that their provisions shall not be violated. The permanent members of the Security Council shall be requested to underwrite the peace treaties and ensure respect or the provisions. They shall be requested to conform their policies an actions with the undertaking contained in this Framework.

Framework for the Conclusion of a Peace Treaty
between Egypt and Israel

In order to achieve peace between them, Israel and Egypt agree to negotiate in good faith with a goal of concluding within three months of the signing of this framework a peace treaty between them:

It is agreed that:

* The site of the negotiations will be under a United Nations flag at a location or locations to be mutually agreed.

* All of the principles of U.N. Resolution 242 will apply in this resolution of the dispute between Israel and Egypt.

* Unless otherwise mutually agreed, terms of the peace treaty will be implemented between two and three years after the peace treaty is signed.

The following matters are agreed between the parties:

1. the full exercise of Egyptian sovereignty up to the internationally recognized border between Egypt and mandated Palestine;

2. the withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from the Sinai;

3. the use of airfields left by the Israelis near al-Arish, Rafah, Ras en-Naqb, and Sharm el-Sheikh for civilian purposes only, including possible commercial use only by all nations;

4. the right of free passage by ships of Israel through the Gulf of Suez and the Suez Canal on the basis of the Constantinople Convention of 1888 applying to all nations; the Strait of Tiran and Gulf of Aqaba are international waterways to be open to all nations for unimpeded and nonsuspendable freedom of navigation and overflight;

5. the construction of a highway between the Sinai and Jordan near Eilat with guaranteed free and peaceful passage by Egypt and Jordan; and

6. the stationing of military forces listed below.

Stationing of Forces

No more than one division (mechanized or infantry) of Egyptian armed forces will be stationed within an area lying approximately 50 km. (30 miles) east of the Gulf of Suez and the Suez Canal.

Only United Nations forces and civil police equipped with light weapons to perform normal police functions will be stationed within an area lying west of the international border and the Gulf of Aqaba, varying in width from 20 km. (12 miles) to 40 km. (24 miles).

In the area within 3 km. (1.8 miles) east of the international border there will be Israeli limited military forces not to exceed four infantry battalions and United Nations observers.

Border patrol units not to exceed three battalions will supplement the civil police in maintaining order in the area not included above.

The exact demarcation of the above areas will be as decided during the peace negotiations.

Early warning stations may exist to insure compliance with the terms of the agreement.

United Nations forces will be stationed:

1. in part of the area in the Sinai lying within about 20 km. of the Mediterranean Sea and adjacent to the international border, and

2. in the Sharm el-Sheikh area to insure freedom of passage through the Strait of Tiran; and these forces will not be removed unless such removal is approved by the Security Council of the United Nations with a unanimous vote of the five permanent members.

After a peace treaty is signed, and after the interim withdrawal is complete, normal relations will be established between Egypt and Israel, including full recognition, including diplomatic, economic and cultural relations; termination of economic boycotts and barriers to the free movement of goods and people; and mutual protection of citizens by the due process of law.

Interim Withdrawal

Between three months and nine months after the signing of the peace treaty, all Israeli forces will withdraw east of a line extending from a point east of El-Arish to Ras Muhammad, the exact location of this line to be determined by mutual agreement.

Much of the extremism you see, Professor Dershowitz, may be nothing more than a growing wave of public opinion opposing Israel's domestic and foreign policies.

You have chosen to filter off the whitecap at the top of the wave to make the point that the anti-Semitic comments at the extreme represent the entire wave. This is nothing more than a worn out legal ploy that is totally transparent and ineffective.

Being outraged at Israel's bullying ways would be no more anti-Semetic than opposition to the foreign policy of the United States would be anti-American.

In any event, congratulations on managing to write your entire six part series without once responding to the principle points raised in President Carter's book.

And here's another righteous goi for you to melign, Mr. Dershowitz:

Apartheid in the Holy Land
By Desmond Tutu

In our struggle against apartheid, the great supporters were Jewish people. They almost instinctively had to be on the side of the disenfranchised, of the voiceless ones, fighting injustice, oppression and evil. I have continued to feel strongly with the Jews. I am patron of a Holocaust centre in South Africa. I believe Israel has a right to secure borders.

What is not so understandable, not justified, is what it did to another people to guarantee its existence. I've been very deeply distressed in my visit to the Holy Land; it reminded me so much of what happened to us black people in South Africa. I have seen the humiliation of the Palestinians at checkpoints and roadblocks, suffering like us when young white police officers prevented us from moving about.

On one of my visits to the Holy Land I drove to a church with the Anglican bishop in Jerusalem. I could hear tears in his voice as he pointed to Jewish settlements. I thought of the desire of Israelis for security. But what of the Palestinians who have lost their land and homes?

I have experienced Palestinians pointing to what were their homes, now occupied by Jewish Israelis. I was walking with Canon Naim Ateek (the head of the Sabeel Ecumenical Centre) in Jerusalem. He pointed and said: "Our home was over there. We were driven out of our
home; it is now occupied by Israeli Jews."

My heart aches. I say why are our memories so short. Have our Jewish sisters and brothers forgotten their humiliation? Have they forgotten the collective punishment, the home demolitions, in their own history so soon? Have they turned their backs on their profound and noble religious traditions? Have they forgotten that God cares deeply about the downtrodden?

Israel will never get true security and safety through oppressing another people. A true peace can ultimately be built only on justice. We condemn the violence of suicide bombers, and we condemn the corruption of young minds taught hatred; but we also condemn the violence of military incursions in the occupied lands, and the inhumanity that won't let ambulances reach the injured.

The military action of recent days, I predict with certainty, will not provide the security and peace
Israelis want; it will only intensify the hatred. Israel has three options: revert to the previous
stalemated situation; exterminate all Palestinians; or -- I hope -- to strive for peace based on justice, based on withdrawal from all the occupied territories, and the establishment of a viable Palestinian state on those territories side by side with Israel, both with secure borders.

We in South Africa had a relatively peaceful transition. If our madness could end as it did, it must
be possible to do the same everywhere else in the world. If peace could come to South Africa, surely it can come to the Holy Land?

My brother Naim Ateek has said what we used to say: "I am not pro- this people or that. I am pro-justice, pro-freedom. I am anti-injustice, anti-oppression."

But you know as well as I do that, somehow, the Israeli government is placed on a pedestal [in the US], and to criticise it is to be immediately dubbed anti-semitic, as if the Palestinians were not semitic. I am not even anti-white, despite the madness of that group. And how did it come about that Israel was collaborating with the apartheid government on security measures?

People are scared in this country [the US], to say wrong is wrong because the Jewish lobby is powerful -- very powerful. Well, so what? For goodness sake, this is God's world! We live in a moral universe. The apartheid government was very powerful, but today it no longer exists. Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Pinochet, Milosevic, and Idi Amin were all powerful, but in the end they bit the dust.

Injustice and oppression will never prevail. Those who are powerful have to remember the litmus test that God gives to the powerful: what is your treatment of the poor, the hungry, the voiceless? And on the basis of that, God passes judgment.

We should put out a clarion call to the government of the people of Israel, to the Palestinian people and say: peace is possible, peace based on justice is possible. We will do all we can to assist you to achieve this peace, because it is God's dream, and you will be able to live amicably together as sisters and brothers.

Mr. Dershowitz is an unreliable source. He believes that organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights watch, which have a stellar reputation for championing human rights world-wide, are not worth considering when they complain about human rights abuses by Isreal. I appreciate your contribution, Prof. Dershowitz, to this opportunity for concerned readers to comment on your series on Jiimmy Carter's sale for money of his legacy and reputation on behalf of conditions in Palestine. The numerous condemnations you have articulated show the depth of your feelings on this issue as well as your unbending support for any and all actions by the State of Israel in international affairs. It is not often a notable personality exposes him or herself to such scrutiny.

Notwithstanding the enthhusiasm of your efforts, consistent with Carter's admonitions regarding the punishment US politicians face at critiquing Israel's policies, your six part series attacks the messenger, ignores the message and avoids any possibility of improving any misperceptions which may slow or impede the possibility of acheiving peace in the Middle East. While this may not be your intent, the effect of your series has been to parse words and concepts defensively so that thinking is not part of the process. Instead, you seem to want to personalize and narrow the focus of inquiry to the most infinitesimal aspects of the questions raised by Carter to find 'errors' which pretend that the essence of his concerns have no meaning. If you can fiind an error or a point on which to disagree, his message has no meaning and MUST be ignored. Maintaining the status quo seems very important to you.

Palestine, as the diminishing area occupied by the former occupants of what is now Israeli soil, suffers from a governmental and humanitarian indifference and incompetence which allows bigots and extremists to aggrevate existing conditions into militaristic ventures - regardless of their purpose - as vengeance, retribution, attention getting devices or whatever. Israel appears to use the resultant interactions as justification for retaliation or intimidation to prevent or intimidate against similar future actions or simply to justiify the continued conquest of the expanding conquered territories in a manner that satisfies the aspirations of some Israeli citizens. Somewhere the rubber hits the road. Israel's projected, attitude, backed by the military and financial support of the US, appears to be, "So what, we will win!".

Your series of articles attacks, impugns and derides Jimmy Carter undermining him as a person, a humanitarian, a Nobel prize recipient, and a former President of your country. You have accused him of selling the importance and effectiveness of his beliefs- even the substance of his beliefs - as qualities to be exchanged for money. Because Arab money has supported some activities of the Carter Center you have tried to imply that Jiimy Carter has taken money in exchange for his humanity on behalf of someone in opposition to Israel. The shallowness of such an illogical disconnect harkens to the manipulation of jurors to free a killer. You may have accomplished more ill here than good for the cause you support.

Your efforts may or may not have been on behalf of the zionist policies of the State of Israel. Your achievements have not built an understanding and appreciation for the past suffering and current insecuritites of a geographically small area surrounded by hostile neighbors. This series has not undermined MY belief that humanitarian interests supercede anything else which might be on the table.

No matter how bad the Christians of the past were, and Christianity is the other religion that has practiced conversion by force, (and Christianity caused the murder of six million Jews) the other religion forcing conversions being Islam, the fact remains that Islam is participating in virtually every war in the world today. What do the Islamists want, just ask them. It is simple, the same thing the Quran says, a world dominated by Islam.

We don't see Japanese terrorists murdering Americans, like the Islamists. We don't see Native Americans murdering innocent people like the Islamists do, do we ? They all have grievances, but they have moved forward, unlike the Islamists.

We donl't see Hindus murdering British do we ?

We don't see israelis murdering Germans do we ?

Nah the only bloodthirsty animals are the Islamists. if ya ain't a Muslim, you are either a Dhimmi, or you are dead. Now I wish such a society on all of the Palestinian and Carter supporters, including those on this board, thats justice.

We can call that part of the world midevil world, where people can see what it was like to live in the seventh century. Great for a short vacation.

By the way how many people were murdered by the religion of peace today ? Today alone, in the thousands including Iraq, Darfur, dozens in Lebanon, Sudan, Niger, etc...

But the hundreds of thousands murdered in Africa by Islam in the last few years no one cares about because they were only black. "White" Palestinians are much more important. Their blood bleeds far redder than just an African.

Fallaci continued posing indignant questions about the treatment of women in the new Islamic state. Why, she asked, did Khomeini compel women to "hide themselves, all bundled up," when they had proved their equal stature by helping to bring about the Islamic revolution? Khomeini replied that the women who "contributed to the revolution were, and are, women with the Islamic dress"; they weren't women like Fallaci, who "go around all uncovered, dragging behind them a tail of men." A few minutes later, Fallaci asked a more insolent question: "How do you swim in a chador?" Khomeini snapped, "Our customs are none of your business. If you do not like Islamic dress you are not obliged to wear it. Because Islamic dress is for good and proper young women." Fallaci saw an opening, and charged in. "That's very kind of you, Imam. And since you said so, I'm going to take off this stupid, medieval rag right now." She yanked off her chador.

All Pal supporters and carter supporters, I hope ya don't go out in public without your chador. Is that a form of apartheid dress ? Or don't women count, I guess they don't.

Ok, I guess no one knows any women of real political power in Islamic society, I guess women are not that important.

Here is another question for the Pal supporters and the Dhimmi Carter supporters:

Why do Muslims murder so many Islamic people. What do Muslims have against islamic people ?

Millions of Muslims from Iran murdered millions of Islamic people from iraq during the iran Iraq war.

Hundreds of thousand of Muslims from Darfur murdered hundreds of thousand of Islamic people from Darfur.

In the past year tens of thousands of Muslims from Iraq have murdered tens of thousand of Islamic people from Iraq.

Why did Iraqi Muslims murder 500 Palestinian Islamic people recently ?

Why did Muslim hamas murder so many Islamic fatah members in the past month ?

What do Muslims have against Islamic people ?

Oh, and if millions of Muslims have been murdered by Islamic people and vice versa since the State of Zionist Apartheid was "reborn", isn't murder the more extreme form of Apartheid ? (ie Apartheid from the living)

SO MUSLIMS ARE COMMITING THE MOST EXTREME FORM OF APARTHEID AGAINST ISLAMIC PEOPLE . BUT DHIMMI WITS CARTER MISSED THAT POINT BECAUSE THE WHORE WAS NOT PAID FOR THAT.

Martin, Megawati Sukarnoputri was the President of the largest Muslim country in the world. Oops, sorry... And may I say that somehow, someway, I expect a little more from Israel that I do from some of the Arab countries. I know that you may be enraged that I don't endorse your race to the bottom here. Frankly, I find most of your comments contemptible. Mr. Dershowitz asked us to find an example of people using his comments in an extremist manner. I would like to challenge Mr. Dershowitz to either endorse or renounce Martin L's comment: "No matter how bad the Christians of the past were, and Christianity is the other religion that has practiced conversion by force, (and Christianity caused the murder of six million Jews)" I consider that hate speech. Mr. Dershowitz, I ask you, do you think Christianity caused the murder of six million Jews? Despicable martin, despicable.

If I may be so bold, I would like to say that we who disagree with Mr. Dershowitz's character assassination of Carter do not hate Israel but rather see an alternative path that may lead to peace. I myself am concerned with the seemingly destructive path that the region is on and I wish Israel nothing but the best. I think Carter's vision for the region holds the best possibility for achieving that goal.

And may I say thanks to Abu Tarleyb and Bruce Gruber for their comments.

Jeff, you demonstrate Jew hatred, what I said is correct. To hold Israel to a double standard is one of the three Jew hating D's. Demonization, and deligitimization being the others.

Christianity caused six million Jews to die in the legal "but for" sense, were it not for the vile Jew hating cannards the Chrsitian world promoted for centuries , the world climate of Genocidal murder of Jews would not have taken place the way it did.

Likewise the cannards now being promoted against the Jews, using Israel as a proxy, is setting the stage for another round of genocide.

How come you cannot answer the question. Name women today, of real political power in the Islamic world. People on the level of Condi Rice, Tzipi Livni, Israel's fool for a foreign minister, nancy Pelosi, speaker of the house, or H. Clinton. H as in "haven't we had enough Clintons".

"and may I say thanks to Abu so and so", Abu how come you did not answer the question of Muslims murdering black Islamic people in Africa ?

Are you Abu a "D", a double standard descriminator ?

Carter is right about Apartheid

The world does allow apartheid in Israel and Palestine. Here is how:

Since over 100 times more Africans have been murdered by Islamists than Palestinians killed during the terror wars during the same time period and since the African murders get less than ten percent of the media coverage compared to "Pallestine" we can conclude that:

An African life has one thousandth the value of a Pallestinian life. So Carter is right, there are two types of Apartheid going on in the Middle East.

1. There is a media Apartheid, where the media creates a great wall snaking through all the human suffering stories, cutting off the Africans;

2. There is a "right to life" apartheid where one thousand Africans combined have less of a right to life as one Pallestinian.

But because the Africans are truly innocent, and the pallestinians are not, the right to life of a pallestinian is even greater than 1000 to one compared to some "low life" African.

Mr Carter, tear down that Apartheid wall.

Another excellent article from Alan Dershowitz.

And it still amazies me how many Israel haters take such a great offense to any slight to the Arab and Islamic world. Their more then hypocritical defense of some of the most corrupt and abusive regimes in the world make it clear that this is not about facts but about hate of Israel.

Ah, Martin, thank you for informing me of my Jew hatred because I hold Israel to a higher standard than some other countries. But let me be clear for you: I hold America to a higher standard than some other countries also. I suppose you will not even have to twist your logic to conclude that I am now a hater of America also.

Well, so be it.

But here is my problem with you Martin. If no one can hold Israel to a higher standard than other countries, then doesn't it logically follow that any base action demonstrated by any other country is also acceptable if used by Israel. Isn't that your argument Martin? Israel can be as base as any other country no matter what the other country's actions and anyone who questions it is a Jew hater holding Israel to a double standard? You shame Israel with that concept Martin. Like your thought processes demonstrated here, it is twisted.

Yes Martin, I do hold both Israel and America to a higher standard because I think they are better than some other countries. Interpret it anyhow you like. I have followed your comments here and have come to an unavoidable conclusion: just because Martin thinks it that does not make it so.

Did you really need a six-part article just to end up quoting nut balls? I say if you hold Jimmy Carter to such an absurd standard, then you must also be judged the same standard, meaning the company you keep (or quote). I am duly unimpressed by you Mr. Dershowitz. (And a little embarrassed for you) I would have been more impressed with your articles if they had not contained so much unjustified venom and refutation and a little more reason and resourcefulness. Not your best work. D-

The lies about a "palestinian people" cannot survive the light of day. The real truth can be found in the original "secret" UN 1948 documents.

I asked some questions to expose the lies on this thread and so far all I can see is smoke and mirrors.

I asked anyone to name women of real political power today in the arab world and in the Islamic world. Like what we have in America and israel. No answer. The point was, that in Islam women are treated like second class citizens, for example the Apartheid dress they have to wear that covers them from head to toe. This was to expose the hypocrisy of lunatics like Rachel Corey, essentially screaming to be treated like women were in the seventh century in the most repressive parts of the world.

I asked for a reference of other societies with grudges besides the murderous Islamists murdering civilians by commiting terrorist acts. Clarke mentioned the Japanese red army at Lod airport. That is not an example of japanese murdering american civilians because of hiroshima or nagasaki. Or the Hindus murdering British civilians because of their past occupation. Or the vietnamese murdering american civilians because of the vietnam war. Or the American Indians murdering American citizens today because of their plight. That makes the Islamists rather unique today both qualitatively and quantitatively. But no answer.

Or Jewish people murdering Germans because of the Holocaust. No answer.

I asked why there is so little talk of the mass murder in Rwanda, darfur, Sudan, Ethiopia, the iran Iraq war where millions of muslims were murdered by Islamic people: No answer.

And hundreds of thousand of Africans have been murdered and are still being murdered by Islamic people in some cases, and by Muslims in other cases, -- no answer.

And I threw out a challenge to find the term 'palestinian' used by any Arab prior to 1967, no answer. The fact that their was a 'palestine' is not in dispute. My great great aunt, a Jew, lived in Palestine in 1901, did that make her a Palestinian ?

If there were Palestinians prior to 1967, what was their currency ? Who were their leaders ? What was their flag ? WHAT DID THE PALESTINIANS CONTRIBUTE TO THE WORLD PRIOR TO 1967 ????? No answer because there was no such thing as a Palestinian, they are fungible generic Arabs. There is nothing wrong with that.

And I found an original UN document proving it was only the jews that wanted an independent Arab Palestinian state. No answer.

Now some more questions. Does the Quran state that non muslims are inferior ? Does the Quran state that the eastern worshippers, Budhists, Hinduists etc.. must be converted or murdered ? Does the Quran state that Christian or jewish non believers must be converted or made second class citizens called Dhimmis ?
Are there millions of Muslims that believe the above ? Are there millions of Muslims willing to enforce the above ?

Do millions of Muslims go on murderous rampages when the free press insults their prophet muhammed who was a murderer and a child molestor, but do not say a word when the most vile jew hating filth is published in the Islamic world ?

Do Muslims demand respect for their religion, but desecrate other peoples religious shrines such as churches, synogauges, Budhist statues in Afghanistan ?

Are Muslims involved in 95% of the Global wars today ?

If the answer to the above is yes, then I would say that Islam does not make for very nice world citizens, to say the least.

The lie of the existence of a Palestinian people exposed.

http://domino.un.org/UNISPAL.NSF/0/4ecbf3578b6149c50525657100507fab!OpenDocument&Click=

"9. On 18 September the Progress Report of the Mediator was submitted to the General Assembly. In evaluating the situation of the proposed Arab State, the Mediator stated:

"As regards the parts of Palestine under Arab control, no central authority exists and no independent Arab State has been organized or attempted. This situation may be explained in part by Arab unwillingness to undertake any step which would suggest even tacit acceptance of partition, and by their insistence on a unitary State in Palestine. The Partition Plan presumed that effective organs of state government could be more or less immediately set up in the Arab part of Palestine. This does not seem possible today in view of the lack of organized authority springing from Arab Palestine itself, and the administrative disintegration following the termination of the Mandate. There now exists in Palestine a form of partition, though an Arab State for which the Partition Plan provided has not materialized and there is no economic union. The problem of the future of the Arab part of Palestine and its economic viability is therefore thrust into the foreground."
"
To see the original, look here :

http://domino.un.org/pdfs/AAC25W19.pdf

By the way , the "mediator" the report refers to is , I believe, Ralph Bunche, an African American, from Detroit Michigan, winner of the Nobel Prize in 1950, a man of great integrity, not exactly biased in favor of the Jews, who I believe the Jew hating filth Finkelstein worked for.

I feel sorry for non Muslim black people and women , who the Islamists have used as dupes for a phony cause, cynically being used for a different agenda: The islamic war against the West.

And by the way, unlike carter, Bunche had real academic credentials, a real PHD from Harvard, not a make believe phony correspondence course in "nuclear terminology" from Union college that cannot even be verified, which dhimmi carter pimped as a "nuclear engineer".

Well, I have tread all of the comments now ... and see no reason to change my mind on anything.

It has, as in all of the previous five articles, come down to a hand full, or less. of stalwart bigoted supporters of their bigoted hero author, all of which make false outlandish accusations with little more than some cherry picked 'facts' that are supposed to support their vile anti-Muslim and anti-Carter diatribe. All of which serves no useful purpose other than to further polarize people that would not otherwise become so. These folks have NOT done any positive service at all for the Jewish/Zionist 'cause' ... on the contrary, they have caused more of us to reconsider just what the here stated Jewish positions are all about.

If these apologists truly represent Jews, and I seriously doubt that they do because all Jews could not be 'that' screwed up, then just maybe the Jews and or Zionists, where ever the shoe fits, should stand up and let us all know ...

The fact that these bigots here are speaking with no other support makes me believe that the average Jew is way too far 'above' all of this crap to want to associate themselves with it ... good for them and the more sensible cause, which I would assume prefers peace rather than more fear and it's hatreds as expressed here with such passion by Martin and friends.

Martin your comparisons are ridiculous.

Which Islamic state has attacked the west exactly? I will leave you to ponder that because the answer is obvious.

Which western states have attacked an Islamic state. I will leave that one for you to ponder too.

When was the last time you or anyone you know was attacked by a Muslim Martin?

Do you honestly believe that Al Qaeda and it's spawn or representative of ALL Muslims? Even though they are an extremist Sunni sect, which even the VAST majority of Sunni Muslims reject?

When did your rabid hatred for Islam begin? What led to your hatred for Islam? Have you studied Islam to the exclusion of all other religions to come to the conclusion that only Islam has sections which might be interpreted as condoning violence?

Or is it simply that the Bush BS has worked it's magic on you?

It may interest you to know, as a side note, that there was a bombing in Iran today by group called Jundallah in which 11 people were killed, which was targetting Iran's Revolutionary Guard.

Bush has attempted to link Iran and Al Qaeda. Ya wonder if he might be telling a lie? Then again, has he ever started telling the truth.....?

So if you read the UN document, it is easy to see who engaged in ethnic cleansing. It was the clean Muslims that needed to cleanse themselves of the "filthy" Jews.

Ya see Britain inherited Palestine from the Turks. Britian let a few Jews in, some Jews already lived in Palestine, then Britian said to the UN, Palestine is your problem. The Un said we will divide it up. The Arabs said no way, Jews will not be allowed to have a state no matter who owns the land because we hate the idea of filthy Jews being our neghbors as a state or even as Dhimmis.

So who wanted the ethnic purity, jews or Muslim Arabs ?

Read the original instead of all the hype if ya have the guts:

http://domino.un.org/pdfs/AAC25W19.pdf

It paints an ugly picture of the ethnic cleansing Arabs. Now who espoused "ethnic purity" besides the Arabs in 1900's to the present ?? Why our own Dhimmi Carter on April 3, 1976 , his famous "ethnic purity" remark.

Who do I know that the Islamists murdered ? Well a Rabbi I knew and respected, Meir Kahane, was shot in the face by the WTC I bombers in New York. Dershowitz knows him also. The Islamists also murdered his son, his daughter in law, and his grandchildren.

I friend of mine was murdered by Islamists on 9-11 in the WTC, leaving behind a wife and a 2 month old daughter.

Another acquantance was shot and paralyzed for life by Islamists on the Brooklyn bridge a few years back because he "looked Jewish".

And someone I greatly respected, Bobby Kennedy, was murdered by Islamists, the "religion of peace".

On the other hand, I don't know personally of anyone that has died from Aids, which is far less of a threat to the world than Islamism.

Did you read the original UN document Brian M ? Spin it hard.

Martin L.,

The intelligence of jews (or maybe Israelis) is the issue which The Hon. James Carter, former President of the United States, addressed when he implied - rather than accused - Israeli policies as having produced a second class, card carrying, special law-abiding group of fellow semites within and adjacent to Israel whose selective treatment has contributed to NOT, get that? NOT successfully resolved the animosities, fears and hatreds in the area. Smart folks might at least be CONSIDERING giving that issue some thought - instead of hysterically pointing fingers of acccusation and blame at any and everyone who dares to suggest 'maybe we ought to THINK about it'.

How things are turning out is hardly under the control of the former occupants of the area now (expandingly) known as Israel. The 'smart' folks with all the muscle and brains ought to be doing better - without exterminating those who disagree with them because of fear.

Islam: Moving forward from the 7th century bc to the 8th century bc:

Kuala Lumpur - A leading Malaysian Muslim cleric has suggested that all women should be fitted with chastity belts as a deterrent to rape and incest, a news report said Friday.

Abu Hassan Al-Hafiz, an influential cleric from the northeastern Terengganu state, said that women were most safe from sexual predators if they donned some form of barrier to their sexual organs.

'We have even come across a number of unusual sex cases, where even senior citizens and children are not spared. The best way to avert sex perpetrators is to wear protection,' Abu Hassan said in a sermon late Thursday, quoted by the Star daily.

'My intention is not to offend women but to safeguard them from sex maniacs. Besides, husbands could also feel more secure, if you know what I mean.'

'If you know what I mean"

Im touched that you noticed me BTN and wanted me to become involved!

"He doesn't want to admit that there are any bad "Muslims""

I have no problem admitting that BTN. There are bad people in every section of society, that is life. Unlike you and Martin and your kind I choose not to use labels to blame people. If the Palestinians were Christians, Buddhist, Jews and Hindus there cause would be equally just. Their religion is an irrelevance to me. Just the same way that the professed faith of trash like Al Qaeda and it's surrogates (since seemingly any group can claim to be "Al Qaeda, but that's another story), are not Muslims to me, they are just...trash.

So BTN, Martin, do yourselves a favour and see the bigger picture, this is about Rights, not about labels. The fact that you choose to impose religion on the argument proves nothing but your bigotry or as Jerry says your "Fears, Hatreds and Bigotry".

I refuse to get drawn into a pointless argument with you BTN because you are unable to have a rational discussion. My facts are documented, my opinions are my own, based on facts. To date anything you have brought to the table has been nonsense and vitriol, so unless you produce something substantial and worth debating which does not end up reverting to childish antics, this will be my last remark to you, here at least.

"My facts are documented, my opinions are my own, based on facts."

Thats another laugh. I have yet to see a fact from you that was correct? And your opinions are based on whatever you read in the left wing extremists sources. Actually using the word "sources" is too kind. You form your opinions based single magazine articles!!!

"this will be my last remark to you, here at least. "

I have no reason to be ashamed of what I say ... I would not say it if I did ... the problem is that such "smart" people as yourself have not the "intelligence", let alone wisdom, to really even begin to understand the depth of the meanings ... you live in a "shallow" world of your own making with all of your own evil little enemies that are so large only in your small head by comparison ...

I will even repeat all of my messages and comments ... here is the latest:

"I defend the 'essence' of what the Protocols mean, that which is under the surface bigotry that you folks want to hide 'everything' under so you can just label all as anti-Semite because your conservative desires hide therein. You are the real bigot here. "

Let us see you spin it around ... you will only prove my point "smarty".

Finally this jaundiced, repetitious, uninspired series is at an end. None of the charges about Carter that it surfaced were new to anyone who follows such topics. Most of all, Prof. Derschowitz repeatedly avoided responding directly to the key point about israel made by Carter and many other observers -- that it has recreated -- for many reasons, some good and some bad -- its own little version of apartheid in the occupied territories that is in many ways worse that the original. The real tragedy is that -- unlike South Africa -- there are no Mandelas or de Klerks in view among the leaders on either side, and "verkramptes" like Derschowitz and radicals like Haniya, Nasrallah, and Ahmadinejad have far too much influence. Derschowitz may be right, therefore -- this is not like South Africa. It may well end very badly for all concerned.

If one reads the real history of "palestine" , sympathy for the Pals is largely misguided. They and only they are to blame for their plight. As the United Nations reported, it was the Arabs that rejected a state because they did not want any Jews in their vicinity:let alone a Jewish state. I call that Arab racism. Since they did not own the land, the British did, they had no say. They deserve nothing. To this day, they still aspire to the racist dream of a Jewish Free Israel. There are far more deserving groups of the world sympathy. They've stolen enough already.

"The Anti-Defamation League has documented the extraordinary number of hate sites that are featuring Carter's book and the outrageous statements he has made about 'the Jews' in his media interviews."

Ahhh, yes, the old guilt-by-association argument. So I suppose if I happen to buy a tube of toothpaste at a drug store that an anti-semite happens to have shopped at, that makes me an anti-semite too?

Thanks again for the enlightenment, Alan.

"responding directly to the key point about israel made by Carter and many other observers --"

James Henry-It's been responded to over and over. Don't blame Mr. Dershowitz for fact that you obviously have a reading comprehension problem...
