I started writing comics around 1999. Having no drawing skill, I am left to collaborate with artists to make my ideas a reality. These days, I joke around about how the only way I could find a talented, dedicated, reliable artist was to marry her.
The fact that I had fallen in love with the woman in question certainly helped matters.
We came up with an idea for a comedy series, Zephyr & Reginald: Minions for Hire, a series of superhero stories told from the point of view of the villains' henchmen (a group sadly lacking in respect or representation). Caught between their maniacal employers and the relentless do-gooders who oppose them, our "heroes" are just out to keep their jobs and do their work. They spend late nights in the lab testing laser weaponry, genetically engineering giant spiders, and mixing up fresh batches of knockout gas while the villains get all the publicity. But now, finally their story will be told.
Just... Very slowly. We released our first full-length comic in 2005. We've also done some minicomics for Minions for Hire, and we've had some of our short comic strips published in small-press venues and online, but the second issue has taken its sweet time, basically because the dreaded spectre of real life gets in the way.
I changed jobs at the end of the 2005 school year and we spent the summer in transition, and then most of the next school year settling into our new home and new jobs.
I'm happy to report that we are finally back on track. Issue 2 is scheduled to debut at the SPACE convention April 21 2007 in Columbus OH.
