Can We Talk About This? Speaker Pelosi and Syria and Iran

There are always cycles of opening and closing. The more cycles the more people become relaxed with the process and stay open to the next cycle.

I am curious how many people here, in America, watched the events in the mid-east these past weeks and abused themselves with the reactions of anxiety, fear, guilt, shame or whatever. Life happens and then it stops. SO WHAT? Are we loving it?

I agree, Vicky. Iran's civilized treatment of those captives demonstrates how barbaric we are by comparison. And I say "YAY" for Nancy. She is breaking past the childish, spoiled brat macho arrogance that causes all the misunderstanding and misery in our so-called foreign policy. Too bad for Bush now, that he won't have an excuse to invade Iran right away after all, but I'm sure he has some back-up plans up his sleeve.

Are you so gullible that you can't see that this joker is just playing you? Are you that insane with hatred for Bush and America that you can be so easily fooled? This Iranian madman reads the same newspapers you do, looks at the same opinion polls and probably studies our behavior. What kind of hysteria are moonbats going through where they think that WE'RE the bad guys and A-holes like Chavez and Ahmedinejad are the good guys?

Are you guys Holocaust deniers, also? Will you stand and cheer when the little Hitler from Iran nukes Israel? Man, this is one mixed up, confused world.

Did Mahmoud Ahmedinejad actually "pardon" the British, or did he just decide to free them as a gesture of goodwill at our Easter Season, as I read somewhere? Either way, he is letting them go, unharmed. And since they admitted going where they should not have been, I think he is doing a good thing, regardless of whatever else he is up to.

. The US is such a bad place, these detainees had to listen to the red hot chili peppers, they couldnt sleep because the lights were on. Oh BOO HOO.They have better medical care than alot of Americans and good food , they get to pray and read their Koran , I really feel sorry, for them. I think we need to remind ourselves of the homeless here, who dont have it so good, you can bet your sweet butt, if the Americans were detained, they would have it alot worst, tortured, maimed, killed such as the cases of Viet Nam,

It's important to give the leaders of the Middle-East region enough rope to hang themselves with. We must remember that the majority of people in that region want peace. Many of the factions just want the West to recognize that their fights are ligitimate. In any case the current method of operation obviously isn't working. I can appreciate Pelosi's attempt at diplomacy but I disagree with her willingness to break the chain of command. She's setting a bad example. She may have left the door open for any other politician to walk through.

The truth is that this is the greatest country in the world. No question. Our government was established as an experiment in democracy. The Constitution is a living document to change as time changes the world. We have not, as a nation, taken the responsibility to excersice our right to make those necessary changes. The Constitution says that it is not only our right but our duty to re-examine the document every twenty years to ensure we are positioned with the winds of change at our backs, filling the sails to move us forward. We here stories on the news of senators and congressmen cheating their constituents for personal gain and we even allow a president to lie to us on many fronts concerning domestic and foreign policies. A president that was selected not elected. Yet we impeach the last president for having an extra marital affair. Never mind that gas prices were a dollar a gallon. The right has done a brilliant job of demonizing liberals. We have to set aside our differences and assert ourselves not as liberals or conservatives but as Americans. We reap what we sew, and we have ended up with the president we deserve because we have'nt been paying attention.

I read where he pardoned the hostages, but I'm happy that the sailors and marines are home (in the UK). I highly doubt that there will be an attack on 6 April, the moon is too bright. Maybe by 17 April (the new moon) things will be different.

If Speaker Pelosi feels able to sidetrack our president in matters of foriegn policay it's obvious why. The American electorate no longer trusts mr. bush to do the right thing, or anything at all that will move us forward in the stalemate of the middle east. His record of failure has Americans more worried than the terrorists. Our girl Nancy is just doing what she knows the American people want, working diplomatically to gets things moving again in the direction of peace. Maybe it won't come right away, but at least she's talking and being listened to. That in itself is more than bush is doing lately. All he's accomplished is to lower our standing in the world to the point that no one believes it necessary to listen to us anymore until this simple minded fool is out of power. In that way mr. bush is very much like the Iranian president, a mouth without a leash, that no one takes seriously anymore.

I'm curious about Marty's comment on an attack? I have'nt read that. I did read on another site that Iran was funneling in massive amounts of artilery to Syria preparing for a rumored war coming this summer. That may be old news but the article made it sound like both countries were in deep preperation.

Bush isn't "our" president because HE MADE IT THAT WAY.

He feels compelled to serve only those who voted for him (or the 30% that still support him), and isn't the least bit interested in what the rest of us have to say.

His administration is trying to set up the Government bureaucracy to be a GOP political machine -- and screw the half of the country that doesn't like it.

Kudos to Mrs. Pelosi. At least someone seems interestsed in starting a process towards peace. But of course, she doesn't have minions of war profiteers to keep in good profits.

Good Friday has a nearly full moon. I don't think we would attack with a nearly full moon. The next new moon should be April 17th.

Maybe we won't strike. There are probably many who probably think we should strike. Some may be appreciative that the Iranians have released the Brits.

Oh Vickey. With all due respect, I think you need to do a lot more research on the kinds of atrocities that have been and are being committed on way too many "detainees" that were snatched from the streets or airports or goat fields for entirely corrupt reasons and have never even been given a chance to find out what they are IN there for, much less been able to defend themselves. It doesn't matter to me if it is my country doing it. It is evil and we all suffer from the world knowing about it.

It seems that the most of that type of snatching/detention would probably happen in China. Maybe also in Japan with the Yakuza, or other Asian countries for young women sold into prostitution, or whatever. I think Eastern Europe is another hot spot for human trafficking, but according to at least one series of Law and Order Episodes, it can happen here in this country as well.

Now, now Michael M., just because you weren't overly popular is no reason to attack others. I'd think if you'd want to be petty and point out specific instances where she might have not used your dialect of English, then you are free to do so, but I'd remind you that this is a relatively open group, and not everyone says potato the same way, or tomato. Some people even say pop instead of soda, or Coke, or Pepsi.
