We got Zoey as a kitten and had her for about six years, after we moved, she was with us about two more years then one day she never came when we called her. She was a special kitty to me and I missed her a lot. I have other cats but have not gotten real attached or close to any kitties since she disappeared.
Zoey liked to climb up and sit on her special perch over the kitchen window and watch the world below her. The first time she did this, we could not figure where she had got off too and did not even think to look up for her. In this photo, my husband was getting ready to get her down and she was glaring at him because she did not want to get down, but we were going to be in town all day and he wanted her to go outside for the day.
She liked to climb up behind me on my recliner and she would bat at my hair or bite my hair. Then she would peer around at me with her face in mine and start to purr, then climb down, curl up in my lap and go to sleep for awhile. She was the boss top cat of our house for awhile. She loved chasing the flashlight light when on and she liked to play with rolled up pieces of paper. She and my oldest granddaughter who lived with us for awhile were great buddies, often Zoey would curl up at Alysha's feet when she was napping in the afternoon.
I have had many cats over the years but Zoey among a few others were more special than some. I am very partial to black short hair calico cats with an attitude. She definately had one.

i'm mostly a dog person but several cats have gotten inside of me the way Zoey did for you. one extremely so. 2 of these special cats disappeared the way your Zoey did. in one of those cases similar to Zoey it was a year of two after a move.
being such independent creatures and having their own rounds and territory beyond our own when they are an outside cat makes it difficult to know what happens. remembering these special creatures and exploring the qualities that made them special is a gift they offer to us. sometimes we become better creatures for having them as teachers. some times they teach us about heart too. thanks for the article and making me think about my own cat-teachers.
she'd run out any day that was snowy
one record I'd spin
would make her come in
she loved that music by David Bowie
