(Okay, this is just too weird. I tried several times to include a photo from the 1997 sighting, but it refuses to show up!)
Bright stationary lights in the sky sent countless Phoenix, Arizona residents running to call the police, as well as news outlets on Feb. 6, 2007.
Many residents have become diligent sky watchers since the most reported UFO event in history known as the 'Phoenix Lights' occurred about 10 years ago. On March 13, 1997 several events occurred that became known as the 'Phoenix Lights' with most seeing tapes and photographs of the orbs that were spotted southwest of the Valley of the Sun on news channels and television specials.
It is now nearing the 10th anniversary of the sighting and the city is buzzing over this most recent event. In 1997, CNN reported that hundreds of people witnessed the strange lights. (http://edition.cnn.com/US/9706/19/ufo.lights/) Here is a video taken at the time: http://edition.cnn.com/US/9706/19/ufo.lights/phoenix.lights.24.1.3.mov
This time, Fox 10 reported that around 8PM, SkyFox saw the lights south of Phoenix. Channel 3 reported on its website that calls poured into 3TV’s newsroom, dozens of people called 911 and phone lines at KTAR radio lit up. Then 3TV did some investigating and took video of the lights taken in Tempe looking way out west. There were at least 5 hovering bright lights and in a close-up shot, you could see one of the lights almost flickering in place. Some of them simply went out one by one after about 5 minutes.
There is apparently a photo of the most recent sighting, but I’ll be darned if I can find it. However, I have shown beside this story the Phoenix Lights of 1997.
According to the Channel 3 website, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said the lights were just military flares. But many witnesses said the lights look exactly like the Phoenix lights of 1997 leaving everyone scratching their heads and wondering, "Have they returned?"
