I love Survivor! And I'm very excited about the new episode that begins on Thursday. Here's some information about this installment's competitors. The facts are from the CBS Web site. The commentary is from me.
Alex is an attorney. (Doesn't it seem like a lot of attorneys are on reality shows?) He's 28 and he's from L.A. He works for one of the largest law firms in California. Attorneys can sometimes play the strategy well due to their negotiating skills. His bio says he likes a lot of athletics and painting. Maybe he'll be around to help with the post-merge flag. Those always look like the work of finger-painting kindergarten kids. I don't look for this guy to make it far. Of course, I reserve the right always to change my mind. After all, I'm just basing my opinion on a photo and a very short biol
Anthony is also from California and he's 32. He lists his occupation as a "expert witness locater." I suppose he matches experts up with plaintiffs or dependents in court cases. He's single and lives with his mom. (There's nothing wrong with that.) He's into live role playing games, as in dressing up and going out and playing "Dungeons and Dragons" or whatever. He's a graduate of Yale and his background includes some acting, which is a good skill to have in this game. I think Anthony has a better chance than Alex for whatever that's worth.
Boo (he's a male) is a 34-year-old construction worker. And from his picture, he's pretty hot. (Not as hot as hubby, of course.) He's from Louisiana. He also owns a bar a night. (Perhaps he has some of the same traits as mike "boogie" from Big Brother.) His favorite t.v. show is "Gilligans Island." I think he lied about that one. Anyway, this guys fate will depend entirely on who he aligns himself with. I predict he will be a strong physically, but may need someone else to do the strategizing.
Cassandra is 42. She's an engineer from Los Angelos. (It seems as though the casting staff spent way too much time in California this go around.) Her bio really makes it hard to make any predictions. I think the wisdom of her age might play in her favor, though. I think Cassandra will make it past the merge anyway.
Dre (he's a male) is a cheerleading coach from Wilmington, N.C. (My niece lives there, so she's tyring to dig up some dirt. Dre is a sentimental favorite. He was homeless for most of his young years. He has two young sons, which makes me want to root for him even more. He's apparantly very strong internally, but cheerleaders and their coaches do have a tendancy to get on everyone's nerves. (My apologies to all of you cheerleaders out there...I'm not saying everyone does, but some do.) I think Dre may have a tough time finding alliances. I also think he may spend too much energy trying to make everyone happy instead of playing the game.
Earl is 35. He's an advertising executive from California (another one). The show, if memory serves me correctly, has had quite a few advertising/marketing types on with few doing well. I don't think he'll make it to the merge. Edgardo, 28, is also an advertising executive. He's from Miami Beach. He's even hotter than Boo, but still not has hot has hubby. He has a lot of team sports in his background which may men he's better skilled at organizing alliances. (I never played any team sports and I don't think I missed out on anything, so take it for what it's worth.) If the stars are smiling on Edgardo, he could make it to the top 5.
Erica, 27, is a non-profit fundraiser from Lake Charles. She was a Katrina evacuee and relocated to Lake Charles after fleeing New Orleans. She describes herself as "confrontational" in her bio. This stands out as everyone else says things like "introspective, assertive, loud" whatever. I don't think Erika will make it to the merge.
Gary is a 55-year-old school bus driver from Minnesota. (Michelle W., does he have your vote already?) He's a Vietnam vet and has enjoyed previous careers as a barber and in real estate. He competitively does inline skating. He's also been married for 34 years, so he must know something about the art of compromise. This guy may not be able to compete physically with the younger dudes and dudettes, so his fate will really depend on who he hooks up with in the early days.
James is a 28-year-old bartender from (again) California. He's a navy vet and he calls himself a "people person" and a "man's man." I don't think this guy will make it to the merge either. Jessica is 27. She's a fashion stylist from Los Angelos. (Hey Mark Burnett...there's 49 other states out there.) She's very pretty, so I'm sure she's partly there for ratings. I think she will do well in the game...perhaps making it to the top four.
Liliana will also look very good in her buff. She's 25, from Oxnard, Calif., and she's a loan officer. Her buyer puts me in mind of Sandra Diaz who won the Panama episode a few years ago. She's a former Marine and a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Military folks don't always do well in ths show, but I get a good feeling from Lilliana. She's benefitted from lots of leadership experiences and seems to have a background that's prepared her to work with anybody. I think she'll be in the top four.
Lisi (not a typo) is a customer service rep from (where else?) Calfornia. She's 36 but looks young for her age. Apparantly, she's very well known in the underground electropunk noise, whatever that is. She says she will go far because of her sense of humor and her resourcefullness. I don't think she'll make it to the mrege.
Michelle, 23, is a student from Cincinnati. She's studying fashion design. She likes pirates and things that are green (I didn't make that up, I promise). Again, she'll look good in a buff. (Actually, all of the girls so far will look good in a buff. Most of the guys will. I have doubts about Dre and the school bus driver.)I think Michelle will be one of those that slide under the radar for as long as possible.
Mookie is 25. He's a loan officer from Illinois. He seems to have a lot of competitiveness in his background, so that is really a prerequisite for Survivor success. He's a big Chicago bears fan, but I don't think that should be viewed as a predictor of his success. He's pretty hot, too.
Rita is a 38-year-old single mom from San Antonio (what a great town, by the way). She makes her living coaching pageant contestants. (I would have never thought that was a real job.) Those pageant girls can be pretty tough, so I think she'll make it to the top six.
Stacy is from Boulder. She's 27 and is in internet producer. Again, she may have been chosen for the way she will look in a buff. For fun, she knits and makes jewelry. I don't think she'll be around unless she can use her beauty and a flirty personality.
Sylvia Kwan (I don't think she's related to Michelle) is 52. She's an architect from Ross, Califronia. While she's 52, her photo looks much more like 32. She says she's creative, energetic and dedicated. If that's a true statement, she may be someone to watch. I predict she'll make it to the final four.
Yao-Man is from Malaysian Borneo, which I believe was the site of the first Survivor. He's 54, he's a computer engineer and he's from California. (The California alliance could be very strong if they organized.) He's had quite an accomplished career, having graduated from MIT. I think his age and his intelligence will work against him and he could be oneo f the first to go.
Okay, those are my completely unscientific predictions. It's just for fun, so try to go easy on the "I told you so" comments after the first episode. You can read more at www.cbs.com. Just choose Survivor Fiji in the scroll down in the upper right-hand corner. I would be interested in any preview information you could offer. Does anyone share a hometown with any of these people. Did your cousin date one of the contestant's sisters? Come on...share some dirt (or gold, depending on your view).
