1-20 of 100 Boring Things About Me
1. My parents were high school sweethearts. In the autumn of 1943, my Dad sold his bull and bought two bus tickets for Pocatello, Idaho where he and Mom eloped! We kids asked years later "Why so far?" To which my Mom replied, "Your Dad did his homework, he hated needles and knew that in Idaho people wishing to marry did not need blood tests!" They have now been married 63 years. What an example they have been for us kids, their 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren!! They had six children, two of which are now gone, however, are confident they will see them again in heaven.
2. I have two remaining brother’s, one a newly retired DelMonte VP living on one of Minnesota's 22,000 lakes, the other followed in Dad’s footsteps and became a farmer.
3. I have one little sister, ten years younger than I. Besides being my sister, Jill's my best friend.
4. At the age of five, I was one of 32 students who entered a brand new six week program at our local public school called “kindergarten”. I hated it, I wanted my Momma!
5. Mom taught me how cook, bake, can and freeze all those dastardly veggies and fruits from our huge garden and apple orchard. She also taught me to iron, clean house and how to make “pizza pie”. She still enjoys planting flowers, sweet peas, resurrection roses and dahlias count among her favorites.
6. Dad made me attend Lutheran Sunday School, (which I found boring) and he often smelled of sheep. Besides tilling the fields he also raised sheep and a few steers and pigs to supplement the family income. Never were we hungry, our table was laden with beef roasts/steaks, pork/lamb chops, homemade bread, sauerkraut and garden vegetables. I fell to sleep each night as a child knowing I was safe and secure and very much loved.
7. At the age of eight, I decided to become a pianist. I hated lessons, the crabby faced teacher and practicing Bach and Beethoven over and over again. Ughhh! I did eventually become good enough to be able to play organ in church for 22 years.
8. I have many interesting ancestors; 1. a g-great grandfather, who stood in the upstairs window of a hardware store and watched the Jesse James Gang rob the bank in Northfield, MN. 2. a widowed g-grandmother, who hid her children in a well when the Indians came to raid and plunder during the MN Sioux Uprising. 3. a g-grandmother, from Baltimore, who was related to 25th President of the United States, William McKinley.
9. My late brother, Brian, holds the record for the most homeruns hit in the Redwood County softball league. His record has never been broken.
10. I was abused by a rooster named Two Toes as a child. I hated that dastardly, mean, pecking at my legs bird! When Dad eventually chopped his head off I was overjoyed and heartily chowed down the chicken noodle soup Mom prepared.
11. My at-home nickname was “Lynnie”, in grade school I was sometimes called “LynnBerger Cheese”. In high school, on opening day, the teacher would ask for our names, I said, “Lynn Berg”, they most usually asked, “Lindbergh? What’s your first name?”
12. I was the senior high science teacher’s pet.
13. My favorite high school classes were History, Literature and Speech Class. I hated anything Math!
14. My first date happened in the Spring of 1967, although I was supposed to wait until my 16th birthday to date, my folks okayed the date because the boy was Lutheran.
15. I was the Secretary and eventually became the President, of our Lutheran Walther League. This was where I first met the boy mentioned in #14.
16. I was also a member of the “Turtle Club”. “Are you a turtle?”
17. At the age of sixteen I played softball for the Wanda State Bank Women’s Softball Team. I was a good pitcher and third basewoman, but could never whack the ball out of the park like my Dad and older brothers.
18. I graduated from High School on a hot, humid day in May of 1969. On a dare from my friend, Marti, I wore nothing but panties and bra under my graduation gown. We didn’t get caught and felt ohhhhhhh, so naughty!
19. I attended five Proms and at one time made a list of ALL my boyfriends, it numbered 100. Most of the boys on this list were, "wishes".
20. In August, 1969, I married the Lutheran boy mentioned in #14
