After having had hard (gas permeable) contact lenses for 13 years, and relying solely on glasses for the last two years or so, I've decided to try taking the plunge and checking out soft contact lenses. I'm a little nervous since I've never worn them before and they're obviously a bit different than what I'm used to. I'm especially concerned about taking them out--with hard lenses, you just need to pull the skin on the outside of your eye (by your temple) and blink and they pop out. Also, hard lenses don't need to be replaced the way soft ones do (unless your prescription changes).
Those of you who are soft lense enthusiasts--any tips? Thanks!

I've never really had any trouble getting the lenses out, except on the rare occasions that I have long nails. At that point it makes it a little tricky. Fortunately I usually have nothing more than short-short nails.
Good luck with the new contacts! :-)
Sandra--That does sound strange. If they were the same prescription, the contacts should work just as well (if not better, because sometimes glasses don't cover your peripheral vision.) Maybe the contacts were dirty/cloudy? Sometimes people's eyes secrete more protein than others and that can make contacts cloudy or uncomfortable.
As for taking them out, you kind of slide it sideways and pinch between two fingers. Well, that's what I do, but I am not sure that is exactly the way it is supposed to be done. After a little practice taking them out really wasn't so bad. Putting them in took a little more practice actually.
Sandra- It isn't that strange if she didn't give them a lot of time to adjust. My eyes need a little time to switch between glasses and contacts because your eyes focus at different distances depending on where the corrective lenses are in relation to your eye. If she tried them a while ago, I would recommend she try them again as there have been HUGE advances. She should also talk to the doctor about the problems she had because they could try a different brand or check for an astigmatism or something like that. Just a thought.
Hope this helps.
