The plan to increase the minimum wage is still being debated in Washington. The House voted yes on the bill, which was than passed on to the Senate. However at the Senate the bill was ratified and several items were attached to it, among these were provisions that would give tax breaks to small businesses. I have my suspicions that in the end, before the wage increase bill will pass there will be several more provisions attached to it that will benefit special interest groups and enrich the pockets of those who really don’t live on hourly wage income.

Well said, Geoffrey. although Ted Stevens, the Crown Prince of Republican Pork" is no longer a Committee Chairman.
You are right, Juan. Republcians require that every bill must have tax breaks, regardless of need, economic justification, or the public interest.
What is hysterical is the attempt by Republican congresspeople to pretend to be concerned about fiscal responsibility.
I don't think it is wrong to give small business an additional tax break to help pay the minium wage. After all - it is the huge companies that get so many tax breaks both from the federal government and the cities that compete to have them. It makes it very hard for small businesses to compete.
I think that a tax break for small businesses makes sense - not so they can afford an increase in the minimum wage but so that they can be innovative and create more jobs.
The idea of multi-purpose bills has evolved sinced the beginning of our Great Experiment here. I think at their core, they provide a working give-and-take approach to governing, but it does appear they have gotten out of hand.
