I woke this morning to the crackle of a window frame; outside, it is -15F. The cold compresses the windows in its grip. I scramble out of bed, pull on some sweats and shiver until my body heat reflects a warm glow in the cotton. Then I pull on thick wool socks, slip my feet into sheepskin slippers, wrap myself into a thick robe, and power up the computer.
The news is only for skipping through today. More rewarding is my favorite blog, Art & Letter Daily. I then click over to Gather and find buried beneath the content clutter, a gem of writing by Gather member Saul Bledding. See Novella : Part 1.
Bookmarks
If this were a book, I would place it on the shelves lining my den. I would hold it, I would treasure it, but the best I can do on-line is "Add to Favorites (Alt-Z)".
Why not enable Gather readers to Bookmark our favorite articles on Gather?
Why not enable the Gather community to share these bookmarks?
There are many writers on Gather who have an eye for a well written article. What and who are they reading?
Sticky Content
Content roars by us in a Gather torrent. We have methods to sift through it, such as tags, groups, ratings and views. The problem is, the content is always in motion. There is no real way for quality to stick around and rise to the top. Sure, some articles rise through the most read list, but these are the popular articles, not necessarily the best. These articles stick around for no more than a month.
On Gather, little rises over time.
Gather needs to provide the community with the means for quality to stick to the banks of the content torrent, to swirl for a while in little eddies of appreciation.
Bookmarks are one idea, can you suggest others?

While subscriptions can serve that purpose, it still does not address the issue of churning content. I can subscribe to a group or a member's publications but these change day by day, and often times minute by minute.
I have saved about 30 items to Favorites on the browser. These are the things I would like to come back to. I would like to share those Favorites with others.
As the tributaries of content gather into a great river, there needs to be places we can linger before we are swept out to sea.
Why do you use foxfire for Gather viewing? Do you use IE for other viewing them foxfire to organize Gather?
The trouble I have is using various computers. The desktop, the machine at work, the laptop. I have heard that there are sites to save your favorites, but gosh what a lot of work!!
I know I repeated my comment of great idea a couple times, but it is so needed here.
