Ask an American Idol Your Questions

On Sunday Feb. 11, 2007 American Idol winner Taylor Hicks will attend the 49th annual Grammy Awards. Taylor will be swamped with questions from the press and high-profile reporters. He may not be able to answer every single question thrown at him…but he will answer questions from you….Gather members.

 

One of Gather’s LA Correspondents will sit down with Taylor for 30 minutes before the Grammys and ask him your questions. What was it like to stand before Simon Cowell? What are you trying to communicate with your self-titled debut album? What was it like working with Rob Thomas?

 

All you need to do is post your question to Taylor as a comment at the bottom of this article. On Feb. 11th, Gather’s LA Correspondent will ask Taylor as many of your questions as time permits during the exclusive pre-Grammy interview.

I'd like to ask Taylor where he sees his career going in 10 to 20 years. I read that he prefers a smaller venue for performances, so does this rule out a Vegas audience?

I wonder - Having gotten your "big break" through a reality-show contest, do you find that other artists and musicians treat you any differently? Not to imply that you haven't worked for your success (because I think its quite clear you have), but I'm wondering what the common sentiment is in the industry toward yourself, Kelly Clarkson, et al.

Being a member of the Soul Patrol since AI last year, I would like to know if the band that Taylor used to perform with will be traveling with him on his tour or if he has put together a new band?

I know sometimes artists are not allowed to write their own material for an album, especially for the first one? Have you been able to write your own songs, at least lyric-wise? And if so what inspired you?

As an offshoot of Lena's question above, how much input did you have in the creative direction of your album? Was it a struggle to get your own material on the album? Do you feel it's hard to get taken seriously as a songwriter after American Idol?

Do you feel like you are treated differently by the industry, or in the press, than you would be if you had gained success by a more traditional route?

You've always said that 'it's all about the music' and I believe that, for you, it really is. But there's been a bit of speculation that in making that statement, maybe you're not all too comfortable with the insane level of female fan adoration you've received as of late.

Since it never hurt the careers of Elvis, Tom Jones or The Rolling Stones (just to name a few), do you consider it a CURSE or a BLESSING to have so many adoring female fans loving on you right now?

Hi Taylor -- I'm impressed with your breath control when I watch you play the harmonica, dance and sing. How are you able to play the harmonica on some of those long jam sessions without appearing to be short of breath?

Hi Taylor - I know you're getting ready for a looong tour, but I wondered if you have a timeframe in mind for the next album. Do you expect to be able to write on the road, or will you begin work on the new CD after the tour? Any plans for a Live CD? Finally, are there any of your own songs that got left on the cutting room floor last time around? I would love to hear a re-worked "Hold On to Your Love."

Hi, Taylor; I think you are probably aware of the fact that so many of your fans say that their favorite song of yours is Somehow. And yet, it is the one song that you have never sang for us except on your album "In Your Time". Is there a particular reason for that? So many of us long to hear you sing it live.
