The following I am either currently reading or have read recently.
Michael Cunningham's The Hours; Specimen Days, which are highly intuitive and well written
James Baldwin's Another Country; very deep with literal meaning
Edward Vega Yunque's Blood Fugues; quiet, personal exposition and brief development
Terry Pratchett's Going Postal; good humor and tight plot
Richard Price's Freedomland; great pace and visuals, lengthy and thorough, also a good movie
Antwone Fisher's Finding Fish; an intimate memoir, also a bestseller and movie
Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises; bold and assumptive, lot of white space, though you get the picture and idea from the 1st person POV
I chose past tense 3rd person omniscient in my novel and much of it is passive, so I'm studying these books over to get the big picture.
