Last week, I went for a short trip to the Bahamas for my first visit. It was for a much needed break from months of 6-7 day work weeks and long days. My oldest son, MJ, had one week left before he had to return to college, so I took him along. We stayed at the Atlantis for four nights, and the weather was beautiful! Those of you who have read my articles know of my love of the beach, and there is no beach more beautiful than one along the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean.
Below are some photos from my trip. These first two were taken on the beach on the property of the Atlantis.

The grounds of the Atlantis were lush, and they had a variety of pools and slides on site. Laying by the pool listening to the Bahamian steel drum band was the most relaxing. The third picture is along the marina where you can shop, eat, and drink to your heart's content (provided you have a bottomless pocketbook).

I absolutely love aquariums, so I was in my glory here. The hotel had tanks with sharks, stingrays, eels, jelly fish, lobsters and so many varieties of fish I've never seen before. I felt like a kid again. Below is a snapshot of the shark tank.

We spent an afternoon snorkeling on a reef about 25 minutes away from the hotel. There were 12 of us, some snorkelers, some divers, and we booked the tour with a local dive shop. It was great fun, and the fish were plentiful and colorful. They especially liked MJ since he was the one who held the fish food.

I have a fondness for lighthouses because they remind me of the shores of New England. On our way out to the reef, I spotted one located on a small recreational island. I love the blues in this picture.

There were other water sports available on the beach. One I chose not to participate in was parasailing. I have this little fear of heights. So, I snapped this from the security of the beach where my feet were firmly planted.

The highlight of the trip for me was spending time with a couple of dolphins. They were amazing and incredibly smart.

I tried to snap a sunset picture, but this was as close as I was going to get. I spotted some pink in the sky one night as I strolled along the beach walkway.

Last but not least is my favorite and yet the most simple picture from the trip.

now if that were everyday:)
And now I feel like I actually have!!
John, so good to hear from you! Yes, it was much too short but fun while it lasted.
Carolyn, what I would do for my mind to go blank even for just a few minutes! It was nice to "get away from it all."
Clare, I didn't swim at the beach but there were plenty who did go in. I was only there for 3 1/2 days so I didn't have too much down time. I did swim further out when we went snorkeling and the water was fairly warm :). Not like icy cold here!
