Lets face it, we know who owns who if you have a cat in the house.
At this point in time we are cat-less (pet-less actually). Our household is split. Myself and one daughter are cat people. My wife and the other daughter are dog people. Is it any wonder we have dicipline issues in our house? *grin*
Anyway... I was posting a response to a thread on another site when I felt inspired to share this on here as well.
The thread was asking about the cats that you have and how they got their name...
Here's a few of the cats who have owned me over the years...
The first is Muttly. Got his name just because his personality struck me that way and he was a stray when I found him. He was a playful little guy. I don't recall whatever became of him.
I did have a Himalayan/Persian mix. Beautiful long haired cat. I really wanted to name him something special. So I got down my grandmother's encyclopedia and looked up Persia. While reading through the encyclopedia, I came across Shahnshah ("King of Kings" in Persian). This really seemed to fit him. So, Shahnshah (Shah for short) was his name. When I moved, I ended up finding a new home for him. A family had just lost their Himalayan kitty and so I felt assured that Shah was going to be in a home that would love him.
The next one was a gray tiger stripe and white cat that I inherited from a friend named Checkers. Dunno that origin. But then came along his companion, Chester. Similar coloring, but a completely different personality. Where Checkers was an older, mild-mannered cat, Chester was a wild kitten (not literally). His namesake is Chester Cheetah. My wife just thought he looked like a Chester and we both liked having "Checkers and Chester".
My favorite Chester story is the time he swallowed a needle and thread that my wife had stuck in the top of her sewing kit but happened to leave out. This prompted a run to the vet, some laxatives and an overnight observation. Everything came out in the end (pun intended). This same cat also was prone to eating ANYTHING. Plants, extension cords, you name it. Again, I'm at a loss for what became of Checkers and Chester. These were the latest cats I've had in my home and this was over 10 years ago, so I suppose it is only natural I'm drawing a blank right now.
Pets are more than just responsibilities. They become a vital part of our families. They entertain, comfort and help keep your house from feeling empty (more so if you are single).
I just felt compelled to share this as I've been more of an observer and have been trying to figure out what I could contribute here.
God bless...

And finally, cats used to be revered as Gods. Cats have never forgotten this.

sigh I miss having a cat around the house and as for them not being much for conversation all of mine have been VERY vocal and have always to have the last word one of mine (Sammy) used to sing with me - sadly l always meant to record this but just never got round to it
