poem--a chance to have you there

I have no need to be rescued
By a knight on a steed to save
For I am not so frail and fair
And I tend to be too brave
My reckless heart risks far too great
A prize that I can't spare
Though I willingly will risk the lot
For a chance to have you there

My heart is such a foolish prize
That I often give too soon
Though it be heavy love makes light
Reflecting in the moon
Though you keep silent watch over
The tidbits that I share
You know in time that all I ask
Is a chance to have you there

You have a right to skeptic thoughts
For you have seen too much
And I have lost more than I've gained
For a lover's softest touch
Which never came my way not once
For no man seemed to care
Though foolishly my heart still hopes
For a chance to have you there

I cannot promise more than I
Could ever hope to give
I've often dreamed of highest love
For as long as I've lived
Although that prize eludes me still
I am all too aware
That all I need is your assent
And a chance to have you there
