Telemarketers still get away with phone calls!

I have my number on the DO NOT CALL list. It has been very helpful in reducing phone calls that are totally unwanted. Now I only get them from those who want MORE money than what I already give them (for instance: my local newspaper).

Just now, I received a phone call. I answered it, and a recorded message begins:

"Hello, this is [some company] Senior Citizen [something-or-other] and this message is for the person in you household between the ages of 45 and...."

I hung up at this point.

Why the heck am I getting THAT particular phone call????!!! There isn't a soul in this house who is anywhere close to that age for at least another 15 years! (Okay, so I am telling my age now).

It's as bad as getting a piece of mail from the AARP! Not quite, I guess, because the mail actually has MY name on it!

So, if I am on the DO NOT CALL list, why am I still receiving unsolicited phone calls from the "automated" telemarketers? Do they think that it's not the same if it's not a live person on their end?

Now you can see why many of us have given up the home phone in exchange for cell phones. I won't have a home phone again because I hated all the annoying calls.

Well, to give up the "beloved" landline means loss of DSL, and I won't go cable because we don't watch much TV at all (and don't want to). I wish we go have wireless internet around here, would solve much!
'Course, they will try to call your cell number too! Or send you unwanted text messages (which you get charged for!)

There are a lot of loopholes within the Do Not Call list system, just being on the list does not automatically stop all calls

I put my number on the do not call list as soon as it became available. I have noticed a very large increase in telemarket calls just in the last 3 -4 months. I wonder.....is the do not call list only good for so long. Do we need to go and put our info on it again after so long a time???

I think it is only for so many years, and then you have to renew, but I am not for certain on that, Connie. You might check into it. Add your number again, you can't go wrong that way!

I installed Vonage (VoIP) last year, asked for a new phone number and receive NO telemarketer calls! As an added precaution, I also added the new number to the "do not call" list as a backup. I give my number out to very few people, and if required on some kind of an ad on the Net, its a FAKE one.

I am on the do not call list and receive lots of unwanted phone calls most of the time durring supper . I have just went and updated my information on the do nto call list . If I answer the phone and it is a sales call with live person I ask them to put me on teir do not call list . I am also going to start taking note of the ones I have asked and rihg t down their number nad if they call again Take note of it . If you ask a compay to take you off their list they can not call you back ... You can take futter action after this if they continue to call you..........

I'm also getting frustrated with the telemarketers. I'm also on the do not call registry and I also have privacy manager through AT & T. But recently, I got a call from someone using their home phone number. She said she got my number from the phone book. Has anyone heard of a telemarketer using their home number to call people at home?
