Last night, President George W. Bush gave his first State of the Union Address to a democratic majority – and was the first to begin by addressing “Madam Speaker.”
He gave his opinion of the state of the union. Now may be a good time to look at how one of our nation’s most revered novelists rates the state of the president.
E.L.Doctorow, who was invited by Laura Bush to participate in the National Book Festival in Washington D.C. shortly after the publication of "The Unfeeling President," is known for his historical fiction. He is an author who believes that, even in fiction, there is an obligation to tell the truth.

We have a thought process on this planet that says 'it is okay'---it is fine to kill our fellow man, if we do it in retaliation, 9/11. If we are looking for other countries weapons...it is okay.
I tend to subscribe to the opposite. "There are no warlike people---just warlike leaders."---Ralph Bunche
I think that sums it up......
Thanks for sharing, Eric.
I agree with you Eric. E.L. Doctorow is right on! Me, I'm off to Washington!!!
