A beautiful sunset fills the sky
A golden ball of flame,
Dropping slowly in the horizon
Lighting the sky with it's brilliance
A hue of golden colors is silhouetted
Across the still clear waters of the lake.
The great blue heron stands proudly
Balancing majestically on one thin, long leg,
Eyes peering , ever watchful as it waits,
Watching a single fisherman
Standing at the end of a dock
And hoping for a taste of his catch.
In the distance, a lone loon calls out
With it's great passionate cry
That echoes across the lake
Then as if in response to it's mate,
Another loon echoes it's call,
Perhaps to tell it to wait.
Now shadowed against a nearby shore
A pair of loons swims slowly by,
Each taking turns diving into the water,
As they search for some food,
Swimming under the waters edge,
Then popping up in another place.
Overhead some seagulls fly,
Keeping watch on the fisherman
Hoping for an easy catch
Diving overhead it passes by,
And dips close by the fisherman,
Then back into the sky.
Off in the distance a sailboat skims gently by
It too is sihouetted against the falling sun
As is the slim young man
Who sits guiding it,
Steering his way into a nearby cove,
Just before darkness descends the skies.
The sun now drops
Below the horizon's edge
Just as if it's fallen off a ledge,
Behind the forest and the hills,
As another day comes to an end,
God's magical gifts at the end of the day.
