I just wanted to begin this by thanking everyone for thier wonderful and encouraging comments on my last article.
I have been laying low since then, trying to figure out what the heck I mean to myself without my camera. I really have realized just how much photography is my way of making sense of the world.
I just wanted to let everyone in on an amazing upturn in life! I have sent the lens off for repair and some how by the grace of all the angels looking out for me, it is able to be fixed, and will cost only a little bit under $200 THANK GOD!
On an even better note, I just recieved notice this past week that I have just been awarded a pretty good scholarship from the Association of Women Journalists' Chicago chapter for an article and photo story that I applied with about Teej, a women's festival in Nepal this past summer.
So, not only can my lens be fixed, but this broke barista/college student found the money to pay for it! Thank you to all that sent some well wishes into the universe for me. I am totally sure that played a major roll!
So now all that's left is to let Fed Ex deliver me my lens some time tomorrow and start writing my acceptance speech. The speech does have me a little nervous. The chapter has over 200 members of Women Journalists in the Chicago area and this will be given at their annual meeting at the CBS studios. So after I get it written I am going to have to throw it out there to all of my dear fellow Gatherers for a "harsh critique!" I am going to need all the advice I can get on this one, I don't even know where to begin!
I just keep asking myself, "Do you think Oprah will be there?" How frigging cool would that be!
So look for photos of the city this week guys, I will be back in classes, back in "gear", and totally ready and rearing to shoot!

good fro you!
I don't know about Chicago, but here in Columbus we have a couple of excellent used photography equipment shops. All though they were great for stocking things that fit the old OM-10 I owned, I noticed that they also kept pretty good pace with the modern day technologies. Might be worth your look. It's always good to have a spare lens or three.
