A man charged with hiding his mother's body; in a freezer so he could continue to
collect her monthly retirment checks will stand trial.
Philip Faxon Royer Jr. 57 year old man, from Cranberry, PA. He is an unemployed
former teacher. He is being held for court on misdemeanor cuonts of abusing a corpse
and criminal attempt at theft by deception.
He had stuffed her body into a cooler then put it in a basement freezer.
A case worker from the area Agency on Aging had alerted the authorities in August.
With concerns about his 90 year old mother. They became worried when her home delivered meal service was canceled. They said they had visited the home. Talked to Philip and was told she had died. But, after calling the local funeral home and coroner's office for verification and finding none, she called the police.
The police visited the home. Talked to the son and asked where his mother was. And he said she was gone. They then pressed him asking what he meant by that and where she had been taken. He then told them his mother was in the freezer. She had died three days earlier.
The son during questioning admited he had, "crossed the line" when he put her in the freezer. And that he had intended to continue to collect his mother's Social Security and pension checks. They shared a bank account where these checks were deposited. Which amounted to $1,287 a month.
Can you imagine even thinking of let alone doing this? I know times are VERY hard. But this is just too disgusting and morbid.
