2 1/2 c. finely chopped apples
1/2 c. chopped pecans
10 caramels, unwrapped
1/2 c. soft butter
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 t. vanilla
1 t. baking soda
1/2 c. evaporated milk
1/4 t. salt
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. nutmeg
1/2 t. vanilla
1 c. all purpose flour
In a large bowl, cream butter, add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add egg and beat until blended. Mix in baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add flour, stir until just blended. Stir in apples and nuts. Pour into a greased 9 inch cake pan and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. In a saucepan, melt butter, caramels and brown sugar. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and whisk in vanilla and milk. Serve warm sauce over cake.
