It's been announced by The Baltimore Review. It’s been mentioned in the Maryland Writers Association news letter, on the Write Here Write Now website, in Write and Publish Your Book and in Writeful. It's even slated for an upcoming issue of Writers Weekly. So I might as well share the good news with my new Gather friends. My short fiction has been accepted for publication by the editors of The Baltimore Review! The editors selected "Out for a Walk," to be published in the next issue (winter-spring 2007).
The Baltimore Review receives 200 submissions a week and only publishes a dozen stories each year. Needless to say, I feel validated. I only hope the book deal follows! To learn more, visit Writeful. Once there, scroll down to find a link to The Baltimore Review's website.

Having said that, I DO plan to enter the First Chapters contest. Since I've only been a member of Gather a week or so, I've been trying to get some footing first, and a feel for the community.
As for the request to post the story, I'm not allowed to. I've given first rights to publish the story to The Baltimore Review. After the story is published, I can offer a link to their version of it -- and I'd be happy to do so!
Thanks everyone for your comments and words of encouragement!
